Sledding is one of the great joys of winter. All you need is a bit of snow and a slope! Using sleds, trash can lids, or just a piece of plastic, you can zip down a hill and feel like you’re flying! While sledding is awesome, it just isn’t the same without friends.
One girl always has friends who are down to sled!
You are probably only thinking about other human friends who want to sled. You would be wrong! One farm animal apparently has an affinity for slopes and all things slippery!
In Maryland, one 2015 storm brought enough snow for an adventure.
At the White Tail Farm in Maryland, one little girl learned something unique about horses! The girl’s grandmother owns the farm and is known for breeding champion mini horses! As it turns out, these mini horses don’t want to be left out of the sledding fun.
The girl and her grandmother decided to use the mini horse pasture as their sledding hill of choice.
Like a good grandma, this one decided to film the entire sledding adventure, and it’s a good thing she did! What she captured was a hilarious moment that hundreds of thousands of people have watched and enjoyed.
Sitting on the snowy ground, the girl is surrounded by the horses!
It looks like they are all trying to huddle around the girl and stay warm. While mini horses often have a reputation of being “mean,” these little fellows look like they are just trying to join in on the fun! Despite being completely surrounded by horses, the girl decides to go for her first sled.
Hiking a bit up the hill, all the horses follow in a single file line!
Almost like the entire group has nominated the little girl as their leader, they all trudge up the hill after the strange two-legged human. When the girl realizes it, she starts to run! The horses break out into a chase, hoping not to lose their newly appointed leader.
Finally, the girl turns around and leaps onto the sled!
As the horses continue to crowd around, the girl finally has had enough. She jumps onto the sled and flies down the hill – only the horses follow! They all break into a gallop as they stream down the hill after the girl, looking like a strange medieval charge into enemy lines.
As it turns out, horses just love to be around the people who are nice to them!
Wikipedia explains:
Horses are able to form companionship attachments not only to their own species, but with other animals as well, including humans. In fact, many domesticated horses will become anxious, flighty, and hard to manage if they are isolated.
Whether or not the girl knows it, she has a pretty awesome group of friends.
If anyone plans on messing with this little girl, they may find themselves answering to an entire herd of mini horses! As we just saw, they are willing to follow her, full gallop, down a snowy hill if that’s where she leads.
