Every single person in this world is unique; there are no two people who are exactly alike.
Some differences, however, are much more noticeable than others.
One little girl knew that she looked different from her friends and she felt left out because of it.
Brooklyn is a 5-year-old little girl living with her family in Kansas City.
Brooklyn was born with a rare birth defect called ‘ectrodactyly’ meaning that her hands look different from most other people.
This defect is also known as ‘lobster claw’ because of the hands’ unusual shape.
Brooklyn had never met, or even seen, another person with the same difference as her… until she saw a video of Bronx that is.
Bronx is a Pitbull puppy who had been surrendered to a rescue center very soon after his birth.
He was healthy in every way, just looked a little different from the other puppies.
Bronx was a sweet and loving pup who wanted a family to call his own and his rescuers knew they needed to find the perfect people for him.
They posted a video of the little dog online with a description of his difference and that he was available for adoption.
Brooklyn’s mom, Tina, saw the video and decided to show her daughter so the girl could see she wasn’t alone.
As soon as she saw the video, Brooklyn saw that the puppy had the same ‘paw’ as her and she immediately started crying happy tears.
She saw that, even though Bronx looked a little different, he was still an adorable, happy, and playful pup.
When Brooklyn’s parents saw her reaction, they decided right away to reach out and see if the dog was still available for adoption.
They explained how Bronx and Brooklyn had the same rare defect and how happy Brooklyn was upon seeing him.
The pup’s foster mom, Lainey, knew as soon as she read the email that this was the perfect family for the little dog.
Tina and Lainey got in contact and arranged a time for when she could pick up the pup.
Without telling Brooklyn what was about to happen, Tina drove 24 hours round trip to meet Bronx and bring him home.
When they were finally back, Tina knew she wanted to surprise her daughter so she made her cover her eyes while the puppy came in.
When she opened her eyes, Brooklyn was shocked!
She was amazed to see the little pup that looked like her in her house and asked her mother multiple times if she was serious that he was hers now.
Tina reassured her daughter that Bronx was now a part of the family, and Brooklyn could hardly contain her happiness.
The pair cuddle and play together all the time now, they both love each other so much.
Brooklyn started kindergarten this past September and everyday Bronx waits patiently for her to come home so they can play together some more.
The little girl loves her dog and his different paw, and, most importantly, she learned to love herself and her differences.
