Despite being confined to crates for six years of their lives, Angelica and Spud were sweet, loving, and just all-around good dogs.

According to Amy Creeks of Knine Rescue Inc., they were “the goodest babies.”

The two dogs were placed alongside one another but never really had the chance to interact and play like dogs should be allowed to do. Not only were they crammed into a space that was far too small for them to live comfortably, but they were also forced to live in filthy conditions.

That’s why they were so happy when they were finally taken out of that place.

“You would have expected them to act in a negative way, but they just gave kisses,” Creeks told The Dodo.

Spud was in pretty good health, so he was able to be adopted within a matter of a few weeks.

But that wasn’t the case for Angelica a.k.a. “Angel.”

Angel had to spend time in physical therapy to regain strength in her legs.

Once she was strong enough again, it was time to hit the town. First, stop… cheeseburgers!

Angel had her first car ride and was in complete awe of it.

She didn’t really quite know what to make of it. But she knew exactly how she felt about those cheeseburgers. Creeks couldn’t get that thing out of its wrapper fast enough!

Angel would have eaten in one bite if Creeks didn’t try to help her to stop and chew.

“Welcome to your new life,” Creeks told Angel.

And Angel sure was fond of her new cheeseburger-eating life.

“She reminded me of Dorothy in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ where everything was in color and the whole world was new to her,” Creeks said.

And there were even other things in this new world besides cheeseburgers. There were toys, cozy accommodations, people who took care of her and supported her. But more importantly, she was safe and free from that crate.

When she got a new rope toy it was like “Christmas morning.”

“We took her to the dog park and she just kept going up to these people. We felt like ‘She’s trying to tell us something,'” Creeks said.

Those people didn’t even know Angel’s backstory, but they immediately fell in love with her anyway.

That ended up being Angel’s new forever family.

But Creeks said she knew that from the moment she met them. Angelica was happier, healthier, and doing better than she ever had. Now that Spud and Angel both had happy homes, it was time for them to get back together for the first time in three months.

“The reunion was better than anyone thought it would be,” Creeks said.

There were lots of people who were happy to see these two together again.

“Hard to imagine these two spunky spirits trapped in filthy cages. Such heartfelt thanks to Stacey and Amy for rescuing them and finding wonderful foster families and adopted homes where they are beloved,” wrote one Facebook commenter.
