When the call came in about a stranded puppy, shaking with fear and weak with starvation in a ravine, rescuers sprang into action. A volunteer with DAR Animal Rescue responded to the urgent need for assistance. DAR Animal Rescue is operated by three women, Ermioni, Katerina and Fotini, in central Greece.
Searchers found blood streaks on the highway and the live puppy’s deceased brother lying lifeless on the side of the road. The horror that the living puppy must have endured watching his littermate’s life be snuffed out right beside him had to be incredibly traumatic.
Presumably frightened, the puppy retreated down a thickly weeded ravine not terribly far from his brother. Surrounded by tall brush, trees and weeds, the precious black and white puppy sought shelter.
His rescuer had a difficult time finding him, having to sift through all the vegetation that kept him hidden from sight. Finally, she found deep, dark eyes peering out at her.
She reached out to pet him and he responded to her touch. He was clearly scared and quite sick.
Slowly but surely, she grasps ahold of the puppy and draws him out.
She cradles him in her arms, offering him quite possibly what might be the only human touch he’s ever had. She places him in her car where he shakes uncontrollably out of fear.
But when she reaches out and caresses his face, he leans into her touch, craving it. She transports the sweetheart to the vet where he has blood drawn and is hooked up to an IV to administer much-needed fluids.
He finally wags his tail out of gratitude when he realizes how the humans around him are there to help.
His rescuer named him Angel, a baby boy who is missing a patch of hair on the top of his head and has his ribs showing. At last, he’s safe.
After a few days’ stay in the hospital in a metal puppy pen, he headed to an animal shelter where he settled into a plastic tub. He received plenty of ear scratches and swatted his front paw at the human as if to say, “More!”
He even licked her hand!
Sadly, Angel fell ill again and had to return to the vet. He could barely stand upright this time.
It took a bit longer, but finally, he was on the mend. This time, he headed to a foster home where he quickly learned what it’s like to love and be loved.
He heartily ate food off a plate and began feeling much better quickly.
After a bit, Angel was finally ready to head to his furever home. He found the perfect parents and a wonderful home where he loves to lounge on the couch, snuggle in his dog bed, hang out with his four-legged buddy and go for walks with his hoomans best known as Mom and Dad.
Watch the video below and see his beautiful transformation from an abandoned puppy to a happy and fully loved dog. It’s amazing!
