The Friesian has got to be one of the most enchanting breeds of horse in the world. The jet black coat shines and glistens in the sun, as their straight black main hangs so long it nearly touches the ground. Watching this horse stride across the field can bring up dreams of fairy tales, magical lands, and mythical knights.

Watch as two identical Friesians meet for the first time. And when the video goes into slow motion, that’s when the stars align and the magic of these horses really jump off the screen.

The Friesian horse is originally from Friesland, Netherlands, and during the Middle Ages the horse was strong enough to carry a knight in shining armor. During that time the horse was in high demand as a warhorse throughout Europe.

The grace and prowess show this horse to be not only a beauty but a fine horse for riding and has become a relative newcomer in the world of dressage. For those who don’t know what dressage is, we’ll get to that.

The Friesian stands at around 15.3 hands and is known for its jet black coat, but that’s not always the case. Many Friesians have chestnut and sometimes they carry the red gene.

Full bred Friesians will never have any white markings. To be considered a full-bred Friesian the horses must go through a rigorous approval process.

Another stunning attribute is the feathered silky hair on their lower legs. Purposefully left uncut, these winter boots give the horse a graceful presence when they prance around the field.

Majestic and flamboyant, these horses are naturals for the silver screen.

The way these horses look and prance around, it’s like something out of a fairy tale. You can imagine this horse is the pride of a prince searching for his princess. Roaming the countryside on his trusty steed, and battling all sorts of evil along the way.

Or because of the shiny jet black coat, this horse could be the warhorse of a mighty rogue knight set out for vengeance. I’m sure all who come into their path will stand back in awe and stay out of the way.

The Friesian is utterly cinematic. With the jet black coat and silky shiny mane, these horses are seemingly designed for movies and television.

The shiny coat picks up the movie lights and they just shine on the screen. Sometimes they glow so much they steal the show from their famous movie star scene partners.

According to horse mistress Camilla Naprous, who was in charge of all the horses on HBO’s “Game Of Thrones,” the horses were trained to pass through two-foot “channels” after their riders fall off.

This trained the horses to avoids hitting actors and camera operators in the nail-biting battle scenes.

The two horses in this video are set loose in a field to meet for the first time. The two wild stallions dance and prance around and sniff each other out.

To the naked eye, these two look exactly alike. There are moments when it looks like they are looking into a mirror at their own reflection. It’s stunning to see.

Now let’s talk about dressage. This is a serious equestrian sport that is more of an art created between horse and rider. In competition, horse and rider perform a series of predetermined movements from memory.

You may have seen dressage while watching the Olympics. The true masters of the sport perform the routine as if they are one unit. It’s really something to see.

These two beauties are likely on their way to either be show-stopping movie stars or Olympic level athletes. But even if they don’t make it to those incredible heights, we can enjoy watching them frolic in the field.

It’s a truly beautiful sight to see. Any fan of horses will agree.
