The ocean is a fascinating place on its own. But one family’s fishing trip became even more interesting after they caught a pregnant sea creature. What they ended up witnessing that day they’ll never forget – and luckily, it was all captured on film!
18-year-old Calvin Conger went out on a boat with his parents and girlfriend for a fishing excursion. They were all enjoying the summer day in Port Charlotte, Florida when Calvin suddenly felt a tug on his line…
There was a female stingray was on the teen’s fishing hook.
Calvin laid the sea creature on a table with plans to cut it up for bait. Once he did though, they were amazed to see a baby sticking out of its mother. The stingray was in the middle of giving birth! (note: the screenshots and video footage are graphic)
At first, comments were made like “Eww” and “That is so weird.” Then Calvin’s dad, Terry, started pushing on the stingray’s belly…
In the video, Terry gently presses the creature with his fingers to help it give birth. His wife, Valerie, is the one filming the event.
It doesn’t take long before a baby stingray pops out into the boat. Valerie squeals in excitement and says, “It’s adorable. It’s a boy!” Calvin’s girlfriend says, “That’s so cool.”
Dad Terry tosses the little pup into the ocean water. But he’s not done playing midwife yet…
She was pregnant with another baby.
When looking at the mama stingray, they could see a second tail wiggling around. So, the fisherman decided to help her give birth to that baby too!
In the footage, he once again pushes on the stingray, which helps move the pup along. You can see it coming out more with each press…
Moments later the baby pops out into the boat just like its sibling.
It’s not every day that you get to witness the miracle of birth. In this case, it was double the incredible experience! Not to mention, the fact that it was a stingray would make it even more of an unusual story.

The fisherman throws the adult stingray and her second pup into the ocean as well.

Daily Mail provided an interesting stingray fact on their website. They said:
“Female rays are capable of storing a male ray’s sperm inside their bodies without getting pregnant for years before impregnating themselves at a later date.”
According to National Geographic, “shuffle your feet” in the ocean to help keep from stepping on one. That’s because the vibrations will “alert” the stingrays (and scare them away).
It’s a video that quickly went viral.
After the Conger family got home, they decided to share the amazing footage with the world. Since “truly” posted the video on their YouTube channel it’s gathered over 37 million views and 135K “likes!”
Girlfriend Hannah told WINK News:
“It makes me want to go fishing more. You just see the weirdest things, and it was an awesome moment.”
