Fierce Feral Cat Changes Heart With Kittens
It’s incredible to watch his demeanor change when the kittens came near him.

It’s sad how many homeless cats are in this world who know nothing other than pain and suffering. Yet, just because they were dealt different cards in life – doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to be loved and treated with kindness.

When the TinyKittens Society first rescued an old feral cat named Mason he was in very rough shape.

Mason had been living in one of several rundown barns on a rural property – along with dozens of other cats and kittens.

The feral animals were discovered by a new property owner who was starting to tear down the barns. Fortunately, the Canadian rescue group was called in and they set up a “Trap-Neuter-Return” event to help save them. After spaying and neutering the cats, they planned on finding as many homes as possible.

Mason was among 26 cats they managed to trap over a weekend, according to the group’s website. The poor creature’s tail was broken in multiple spots and he had a large growth on his paw. He also had different infections, dental issues, and was “quite fierce.” But that wasn’t all…

The rescuers began healing and caring for elderly Mason, not knowing he also had a serious condition.

Their plan was to bring Mason back to the farm once he was recovered, as the owner agreed to feed the cats (with TinyKittens providing food and ongoing medical care). However, when Mason’s blood tests revealed he had advanced kidney disease, they decided to change that plan. Instead of sending him back or euthanizing him – they wanted to give him a loving home for his remaining time.

In TinyKitten’s video, they explain:

“We believed Mason deserved to live his sunset months in comfort, free from pain.”

A rescuer brought Mason home, and after a few months, he seemed to be adjusting well to his new life.

They share in the video:

“He was still fierce when we tried to pet him, but was clearly happy to be alive. We thought that was as good as it could get for this magificent former feral…”

One day, something incredible took place after Mason was introduced to a couple of foster kittens.

The kitties began crawling over the old cat (with the rescuer right there), but he didn’t hiss or run away. Mason seemed to enjoy their affection and acted warmly in response. It was just the beginning too!

Mason became a “Grandpa” to the kittens.

According to the website, they started getting the kittens and Mason together on a daily basis for lots of snuggling and playtime. They’d even all play chase and the cat would roll on the ground like a youngster himself!

Thanks to the kindhearted rescuers, Mason had the chance to enjoy 1,069 days in his beautiful new life, which involved being a “foster grandpa” to kittens. Sadly, he passed away on September 19, 2019. On the “Grandpa Mason and his kittens” Facebook page, it says:

“Grandpa Mason showed the world that even if you’re old, sick, feral, broken or different… you have value. You have something to offer. You are worthy of compassion. You matter.”
