Foxes are some of the most elusive creatures out there!
They are like little packages of cute, mischievous, and funny, all at the same time. North America has quite a few foxes and breeds but it is still awesome when we get to see them in our own yards.
One man discovered that a family of foxes love his yard!
Shawn Davis lives in Illinois and recently found out that some wild creatures love his backyard! A backyard is a little piece of nature that humans get to hold on to. When something incredible happens, it reminds us that nature is never too far away from us!
Davis noticed something happening back in May.
While looking out his window, Shawn Davis noticed that there was a pair of foxes hanging out around his patio! Seeing two of these rare creatures is quite a sight to behold. Since he wasn’t expecting it, the visitation was a shock for him.
Looking closer, he realized it was actually little baby foxes!
Young foxes are known as “kits” and that is what appeared to be on his patio. In an interview with The Dodo, he said:
“We had never actually seen a fox kit before and were really surprised they were in our yard, since we live in the middle of a residential neighborhood.”
What Davis didn’t know was that it was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
The fox kits seemed to REALLY love his backyard!
Once the first two foxes visited, it seemed to be a signal to the rest of the family that the Davis backyard was safe! Even in his residential neighborhood, there was a whole family of foxes making a living! It is incredible what wilderness is hiding in plain sight sometimes.
“After that, we started seeing more and more foxes,” Davis said.
The entire fox family was a sight to behold.
After the two came and said the coast was clear, the rest of the family joined in on the fun. It wasn’t just one or two more, either! There was a mom and dad fox and a total of five babies! They would come by each day to hand out, play, and rest. It seemed that the parents needed some room to let the kids do their own thing (relatable, right?)
The yard has a fence and feels very private.
The Davis family thinks that there are a few key factors that contribute to the family of foxes frequenting their home so much.
“Our yard is very private and I think they just felt safe there,” Davis said. “They would curl up and sleep under the trees in the daytime and then play in the morning and at dusk.”
