Things aren’t always rosy in the animal kingdom. There are literally a million things to fight over in the great African wilderness, food, territory, mates, you name it. The story you’re about to read tells a tale of two ostriches who couldn’t quite get along and the unlikely savior who prevented things from getting out of hand.
Trouble in the wild
In this video recorded in Tarangire National Park, Tanzania, we can see our hero to be, an African elephant, taking a stroll in the savannah, minding his own business, when he stumbles across two very angry ostriches who decided to take it out on each other. This big fellow could’ve simply ignored it and let them settle their disputes the old-fashioned way but instead, he decided to act and save the day.
What we see happen next is both funny and dramatic in equal measure. In the heat of battle, the two ostriches forget completely that they’re in the presence of one of nature’s most formidable creatures, and dash off chasing each other and right under our hero’s nose.
Not on my watch
It’s by this time that we realize that the elephant is not going to stand idly by and let the ostriches interrupt his leisure. Clearly annoyed, he lets out an angry trumpet and begins chasing the two unruly birds. After having finally realized they’ve awoken the sleeping giant, the ostriches do the only sensible thing and quietly walk away under the elephant’s watchful eye.
Order restored
Being a wild animal doesn’t mean you don’t need good manners and this elephant knows that very well! Elephants are large and good-natured animals who appreciate peace and they expect the same thing from others. Woe to those who disturb the giant of the savannah!
One YouTube user commented on how the elephant tried to restore order and possibly protect the innocent tourists from the rampaging ostriches.
“Right. You two birds – that’s enough. If you don’t stop that fighting I’ll put you over my knee & smack your feathered bottom with my trunk until you can’t sit down for a week! Folks are trying to have a quiet day watching the tourists & you’re over here caterwauling…”
We can only say that this user is one hundred percent right in this assessment. After all, if you want to settle a dispute with your fellow ostrich, you should at least do it somewhere private and certainly not in the presence of an elephant!
In the wilderness, it’s probably business as usual
We all know that nature can be quite a hectic place. The competition is fierce and resources are often scarce so it’s hard to keep everyone happy. However, if you’re a 12 feet tall African elephant, you easily carve out your own little peaceful corner in the savannah, far from all the chaos around you. We can’t blame the elephant for defending his chunk of paradise, can we?
