Bean’s escapade began on December 5th and was captured in a dramatic video by a driver.

The footage shows a woman stepping out of her car, attempting to coax the little dog to safety, only to watch him weave perilously through the traffic.

In a nail-biting sequence, Bean scurries across the expressway, with two vehicles trailing behind to shield him from other cars.

The drivers, determined to save him, frequently stopped, trying to guide him towards the HOV lane, using their cars to gently herd the frightened pup.

The rescue turned into a community effort as more drivers joined in.

One woman, in a brave and heart-racing moment, ran alongside Bean on the expressway.

Other drivers stayed close, forming a protective barrier around them, ensuring Bean’s safety.

The hero behind the camera, Katie Marie, recounted her experience to The Staten Island Advance.

She had just finished work and was heading to a pizzeria when she spotted the rescue in progress.

“When I saw that dog, my instincts just kicked in and the only thing on my mind was to make sure that dog got to safety,” Marie said.

Marie, along with others, tried to direct Bean towards an exit.

Despite their efforts, Bean kept darting towards the traffic.

“We just kept trying to keep the dog in the HOV lane, trying to tire him out,” Marie explained.

The pursuit lasted several minutes, with more cars joining the cause, until Bean was finally corralled.

Bean’s adventure didn’t end there.

Kaitlyn McGinley, a nurse, joined the rescue on her way home.

“I see this lady running and I’m like, why is there a woman running on the expressway right now? What the hell is going on? Then I saw the Chihuahua and I was like, oh, my God. My heart broke because I’m a dog mom,” McGinley told the paper.

She managed to secure Bean in a bag after he ran under her car.

With the help of a local veterinarian’s office and a community Facebook group, Bean was reunited with his owner within an hour.

The owner revealed that Bean had run away after being startled by a barking pit bull.

McGinley, reflecting on the experience, said, “I safely was able to deliver the dog back to her so that’s all I am happy about.”

This story of Bean’s rescue is proof of the power of community and the kindness of strangers coming together for a furry friend in need.
