Many people don’t go after their dreams because they believe that it is impossible. But there are those who refuse to believe in the impossible and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
The Budweiser Donkey is one of those people, er… donkeys.
And yes, you’ve heard that right! The Budweiser Donkey. You’ve likely heard of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales but probably haven’t heard of their buddy the donkey.
These majestic horses made their first appearance in April 1933 and were given by August A. Busch Jr. and Adolphus Busch to their father as a gift to celebrate the end of Prohibition.
Since then these famous horses have been seen touring the country, and featured on TV in Budweiser commercials, especially during the Super Bowl, as well as Presidential inaugurations and other prominent events.
As for the Budweiser Donkey, he’s somewhat new to the crew.
He made his debut in a hilarious commercial for the 2004 Super Bowl. His inspiring tale shows how perseverance pays.
All this sweet little donkey ever wanted was to be apart of Budweiser’s four-legged crew.
“Since I was born, I dreamt of being a Budweiser Clydesdale,” he explains in the commercial. “Only problem was I was born a donkey.”
But this determined donkey didn’t let a little detail like that stand in his way.
“So all my life I practiced the Clydesdale walk and the Clydesdale pull,” he goes on to say. “I even tried hair extensions on my lower legs.”
Finally one day, the donkey was granted his big interview with the Clydesdale horses he had always admired.
“They looked me in the eye and said, “What makes you think you can be a Clydesdale son,” he recalled. “And my answer…”
His answer was a great big donkey screech.
“I must of said something right,” says the donkey.
And he did because his determination lead him to the head of the Clydesdale pack. Not only did this brave little donkey achieve his own dreams, but he inspired others to do the same.
An equally hilarious follow-up Budweiser commercial that premiered in 2005 showed the impact that donkey had on others.
Because of that donkey kangaroos, ostriches, camels, sheep, and even an elephant all felt that their dreams were possible and could come true, just like the donkey.
Funny thing is, they all had the same dream…. to become a Clydesdale horse. The people at Budweiser, however, weren’t amused.
“Now look what you’ve started,” they scolded the donkey as the legion of unlikely animals showed up for their interviews.
This donkey’s story goes to show that you never know the number of people you can inspire just by following your own dreams. Make sure you watch the videos of the commercials above because they are too funny for words!
