KSAT12 News from San Antonio introduced its viewers to a wounded dog “Mr. Big”, who was found with a gunshot wound. Miraculously, doctors were able to perform surgery and save Mr. Big’s life. Although he needed plenty of time to recover, Mr. Big was no longer in danger. The dog was stolen one year ago from its family, but this rescue reunited this dog with his family.
It’s an unexpected happy ending for the family and the dog, who was named Tank before, as they never expected to find him back. Tank is overjoyed to be back in his family and couldn’t be any happier. Josh Calderon, a ten-year-old, had a great relationship with Tank and says losing him was terrible. He was stolen from the family’s yard and was never seen again, until now.
Tank also holds a lot of emotional value from Josh’s father. “Their dad passed away about a year and a half ago and he bought Tank and another dog before his accident, so getting Tank back… losing him, to begin with, was horrible,” said Josh’s mom, Michelle Miller. Josh remembers how he felt that day and stated it as “mad” and “sad”.
Luckily, Michelle saw the news and when “Mr. Big” was introduced, she immediately knew that it was Tank.
“I jumped up from the couch and was like, that’s Tank! That’s him!” she. “My son was really, really attached to Tank. So to hear what he went through and to see him like that it was very emotional.”
“When I first saw him on TV, I started crying,” Josh said.
Tank was being cared for by the Animal Defense League, and Josh and Michelle finally reunited with Tank when they sent in pictures of the dog when he was still a puppy and as an adult as well.
“Whenever he walked in, it’s like he remembered this place. All the stuffed animals, that’s his favorite thing. Probably his favorite time is dinner time. When we eat, he gets food from everybody’s plate. He’s very spoiled,” Michelle says with a laugh.
“He sleeps on my bed and sometimes I fall off,” Josh said. He doesn’t really mind though, and usually lets him stay on the bed.
A heartwarming reunion.
