It is saddening to know that there are plenty of people out there who keep dogs only for the sake of guarding their homes. These owners do not usually consider their dog’s feelings and they would only feed them once or twice a day, then leave them chained outside their doors. What’s worse, these poor dogs never receive the love that they deserve from their so-called owners.
Fortunately, there are organizations responsible for lessening the rate of pets having to go through this.
Today, a lot of rescue organizations are on the rise, sharing the same mission – to save animals and give them a place that they could call home. Let’s Adopt! International (LAI) is one of them. LAI is a non-profit organization founded by Victor Larkhill.
It first started with the name Let’s Adopt! Global but later transformed into International after they have widened their scopes. LAI aims to rescue animals, provide them proper treatment and temporary shelter as they put them on adoption.
One particular dog was saved from her long time misery of being chained to the wall.
Victor Larkhill and his team received a call from someone about a dog of urgent help that was currently residing at Cartal, Spain. The team immediately went to the location and found the poor Fox Terrier chained to a wall. Larkhill asked the owners for the dog’s name but became mad after the owners responded that they never named the dog. They learned that ever since the Fox Terrier was a pup, she was already chained at a place where the owner keeps their metal junk.
The unnamed dog was physically ill and the team discovered a massive tumor on the dog’s rear.
Larkhill and the team had no problem approaching the dog. The dog never even barked at them as she saw them walking towards her. She probably was hoping that those people would get her out of there. Just by looking at the dog, you could already tell that she was in a bad state.
The dog was malnourished, her fur was matted all over, and they later found a massive tumor hanging behind her. The tumor was so big that it hurts her when she tries to sit. Furthermore, the environment she was in just made her condition much worse.
The dog was happy when she finally got out from her chains
Larkhill removed the chain on the wall and the dog’s wish came true. The team finally gave the dog a name, Maria. However, the rescue mission was not over yet. After examining the dog on the spot, LAI rushed her to the Hospital Veterinario Valencia Sur for a more precise check-up.
The doctors performed an ultrasound on her and after further assessment, they decided that Maria should undergo surgery to remove the tumors. Days later, they then proceeded to put her on the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for the surgery.
LAI received a shower of support from the community to save Maria’s life.
The surgery was a success, and the dog stayed with LAI as they waited for her to be adopted. Two weeks after the surgery, Maria finally found a home. She was not bound by those dirty metal chains anymore and was enjoying life with her new owners. It was truly a heart-melting story and it was all thanks to Let’s Adopt International for enabling this to happen.
