The way you treat your dog can say a lot about who you are as a person! One of the funniest things is seeing someone treat their furry friend as their own child. They pamper that pup like a toddler! Others don’t go that far, but they still love their pups with everything they have, even if it’s in their own way.
Unfortunately, some people don’t treat even their own dogs well.
If treating your dog well is a sign that you are a trustworthy person, mistreating your dog says the exact opposite. Sadly, there are thousands of dogs across the world who are mistreated daily. Groups like Paws 4 Hope are making a difference by caring for the dogs that nobody has before!
The story of one poor dog tells us some good news – good people can make up for the bad!
Paws 4 Hope went out to a site when they heard a dog was being abused. When they got to the site, they didn’t have to look hard to see why they were called. Little Libre was sleeping on the concrete.
Libre is a 4-year-old guard dog that was living near an abandoned house.
The house, located in Cagua, Venezuela, had a flight of concrete stairs with barred windows. Libre’s owners kept her chained to the barred windows, every single day and night. She wasn’t given a bed or anything soft to rest on, forcing her to try and sleep on the cold concrete each night.
With a thick chain around her neck, the poor dog was weighed down and could hardly move her head.
Neighbors noticed how Libre was being kept and decided to call the police and a local shelter. Paws 4 Hope got involved through the shelter and went out to see the pup. When they got there, it was just as bad as they heard.
Libre was so hungry that when they gave her food, she let them approach without so much as a glance.
She obviously hadn’t been fed in quite some time and was all skin and bones. The chain had also caused severe chafing and rashes, eventually wearing away all of the fur around her neck. When they cut the chain off, it was literally a weight lifted off the poor dog.
After some ointment and LOTS of love and care, Libre was finally able to find a home and place where she belonged.
The chained and abusive life that Libre experienced, thankfully, came to an end. After she was rescued, she was found a home where she got to see the good side of humans where she had only seen the bad before.
Who knows how much longer Libre would have lasted if it wasn’t for the shelter!
This little moment is an incredible reminder that good people can make a bigger impact than the indifference of the many. Little Libre is a testament to the power of kindness.
