Brownie, a Jack Russell mix, was born outside of Edith Pritchard’s house seven years ago.

She’s had Brownie since he was just a little baby.

One of his favorite things to do is run around outside for a bit before he runs back home. Pritchard lives in a close-knit community so she felt safe allowing Brownie to do this.

But one day, Pritchard was shocked to learn that things went wrong in her Morganton, North Carolina community.

Very wrong!

Someone ended up dognapping Brownie, shooting him multiple times with a BB gun at close range, and left him for dead in a ditch.

Thanks to a Good Samaritan, Brownie was found in the nick of time and is now recovering from his wounds.

Pritchard says she has no idea why someone would do this to her Brownie.

“He was always a happy dog coming to meet me at the door,” Pritchard told WBTV.

The ordeal happened one day when Brownie didn’t come back from his romp outside.

“Someway or another he wandered away from the neighborhood,” said Pritchard.

Christie Fries and her mother, Janet Lott, found Brownie about a quarter of a mile away from Pritchard’s home.

The dog was lying in a ditch and unable to move.

Lott spotted the dog while she was driving and grabbed the dog and brought him to the vet.

Veterinarians discovered that Brownie had been shot almost 100 times.

Fries ended up putting some photos on Facebook to try and see if they could locate the dog’s owners.

Some of Pritchard’s family members saw the post and reached out to her.

“He said, ‘Edith I don’t think he can see.’ I said well what happened to his eyes?” said Pritchard. “I couldn’t believe that anybody could put that many small bullets in a dog.”

She also believes that the dog is now deaf. Pritchard says the whole ordeal has left her traumatized.

“To me this was torture to a defenseless beautiful animal that hurt no one,” said Lott.

The case is being investigated by the local Animal Control. No suspects have been currently found.

“You need to be in jail and rot there,” said Fries. “To hold a dog down and shoot it in its eyes… that’s uncalled for.”

Pritchard said she is scared knowing there is someone so violent in her community.

“I want to know why they are so evil that they could do an animal like this,” said Pritchard.
Pritchard also lost a dog named Petey the same day Brownie was taken to the vet after he was shot up. There was a GoFundMe page set up for Pritchard to help defray veterinarian costs.

Fries, who set up the page, says she plans to refund the money since Brownie was taken away from Pritchard and is now in the custody of the Better Life Animal Rescue.

Pritchard apparently didn’t know she was signing away the rights to her dog, according to the GoFundMe page. Fries said she tried to adopt the dog but was denied. You can read more here.
