A dog by the name of Pudding is everyone’s new favorite viral sensation. But he didn’t have to do any tricks to get famous – it’s all about his generosity.
Pudding is owned by a woman who identified herself as Ms. Fu. She first posted the video on Douyin, the original Chinese version of TikTok. She and her family live in Weifang in Shandong Province.
When Ms. Fu first saw Pudding grab a pork bun from his kennel and head toward a little ginger stray kitten, she wasn’t expecting a heartwarming moment at first.
The dog barked to get the cat’s attention before Ms. Fu grabbed her phone.
“I thought the dog would try to catch the cat or fight with it when it takes a bite of the bun,” she told a local news outlet called The Paper, according to the UK’s Daily Mail. “I had no idea that what I soon captured on camera was really happening.”
What Ms. Fu caught on video was no fight though – it turned out to be a generous and heartwarming moment between two animals that no one would expect to be friends.
“I caught the moment by chance. It happened in the courtyard outside our house,” she elaborated. “I was working downstairs that day when I heard our dog barking at the top of the steps. When I looked over, I saw it going to its kennel to fetch its meat bun, then it barked again. That’s when I noticed the cat at the top of the steps.”
Apparently, Pudding sensed the cat’s neediness and had the overwhelming desire to care for it as best he could. So after barking to get the cat to look at him, he dropped the pork bun and stepped back to allow the kitty to feel safe enough to approach it.
That’s a pretty intelligent move!
“The cat was scared and wouldn’t come down the steps, so our dog stood back and kept its distance, allowing the cat to approach,” Ms. Fu continued.
In the video, Pudding happily wags his tail with pride and anticipation and walks around a bit hoping to get the cat to share his food.
Of course, the cat is still pretty iffy on the whole concept of coming down the stairs – it must think this is some sort of trick.
While the cat remained in place for a while, eventually the lure of the pork bun was overwhelming.
Even with Pudding nearby, it eventually came forward far enough to take a bite of the bun.
Then in immediately ran back up the stairs with the food.
Hey, nobody likes to be watched while they eat, right?
Ms. Fu said her family got the sweet dog about two years ago. And while everyone thinks their pet is great, she still never imagined that Pudding would share his food with a cat.
“I was very touched by the moment, because our dog is a guard dog, and usually very protective of its food,” she said.
It looks like Pudding just has a good heart.
