Though Caipirinha is Luna’s little sister, she still looks after her big sis.
That’s because Luna needs a little more help these days.
The 14-year-old senior dog has slowed down quite a bit and her eyesight has been dwindling in her older age.
That’s why Caipirinha and Luna’s mom, Julieta Firpo, was wondering why Luna went swimming in the family pool.
Firpo knew something was up went Luna, who went blind, came inside soaking wet.
So, she decided to check the security cameras to see what was happening. Firpo was alarmed when found out that Luna wandered outside and fell into the pool by accident.
Firpo was horrified to learn that Luna was struggling and could have drowned since she had difficulty finding the edge of the pool.
But thankfully, Luna’s little sister was there to save the day.
“We watched the video and couldn’t believe it,” Firpo said.
Capirinha sprung into action and ran from the front of the house to the pool within seconds.
She frantically ran to the side of the pool and ran back and forth trying to get Luna to the side of the pool
Capirinha stood on the edge of the pool right by Luna’s side helping to guide the disoriented dog to the shallow side of the pool.
She kept trying to grab Luna by her scruff but was unable to. Thankfully, with Capirinha’s help, Luna was able to make it to the pool’s steps.
She then pulled her big sister out of the pool by her collar.
That’s when her big sister dragged her by the collar out of the pool. Poor Capirinha looked so scared and concerned.
Luna kind of just flopped onto the pool deck looking completely exhausted.
Capirinha is responsible for saving Luna’s life.
Firpo said that she is extremely grateful for Caipirinha saving her sister.
“Caipirinha was already the darling of the house,” Firpo said. “Now, she’s our hero.
Firpo said she didn’t realize the danger the pool posed to Luna and plans to block off the pool for safety.
And, of course, the internet being the internet (and comprised of grade-A pet owners who never make mistakes), made sure to tell her this in an extremely unhelpful and not nice way.
There was, however, one very sensible and kind individual who wanted to help.
Eric Lupton of Life Save Pool Fence Systems kindly offered to donate a pool safety fence to her for free so that Luna could remain safe.
“How rude of you all to be calling her stupid and clown. If you can’t say anything decent, don’t say it all. It was accident. Get a grip!! Thank you Eric Lupton for offering your assistance. You sprung into action to prevent another accident rather name call,” said one Facebook commenter.
Upworthy reports that the family has had a fence installed.
