Our fur-babies help us in so many ways.

Some dogs help people with disabilities or those with special needs. There are also therapy dogs for children and the elderly all over the country. Other dogs serve in the armed forces and help keep the community safe and secure.

Even their simple existence in our homes is already a great help.

They may be naughty and messy at times, but they bring in so much laughter and happiness inside our homes. That’s why many rescue homes encourage people to get a pet by adopting their rescued dogs.

Sandy is Gwendola Johnson’s rescue dog.

He’s been with Gwendola for a long time and is very loyal to her. He is always by her side any time of the day.

But this time, he is a rescue dog for a different reason.

It turns out Sandy did something heroic that saved Gwendola in an unfortunate event, that without Sandy’s help, something worse might have happened.

It was a hot August afternoon when Gwendola decided to go outside.

As usual, Sandy was with her. She went to the side of her house when she tripped on something. She was okay, not injured whatsoever, but she couldn’t get up.

She noticed a man walk up the driveway.

She tried to call for help, but he couldn’t see or hear her since she was down on the ground. That’s when she told Sandy to go and call the man to ask for help.

The good boy that he is, Sandy ran to the man and barked frantically.

Kirk White was at the right place at the right time that afternoon as he was on his way up the driveway, his garbage bin in tow. Kirk works for Glendale Integrated Waste Management, and he frequented this route. He thought Sandy’s behavior was far from usual.

He said to KTLA that he would usually see Sandy by the window when he passed by.

So, when he noticed Sandy was out and barking and not in his usual position, he knew something was wrong. He also noticed how the dog barked as if telling him that he should follow and go check something out.

And that’s exactly what Kirk did.

He left his garbage bin and followed where Sandy was heading. That’s when he saw Gwendola on the ground. He immediately helped her get up. It was hot outside, and anything could have happened if help didn’t come right away.

But thanks to these two heroes – Sandy and Kirk – Gwendola is a-okay.

When Cheryl Malvar, Gwendola’s granddaughter, saw the footage from their security camera, she couldn’t help but shed a tear. She was proud of Sandy’s heroics. She was also thankful that Kirk did not even hesitate to help.

Our good Samaritan was also glad that he was able to help his fellow in the community.

“Just helping another human, that’s what we’re supposed to do. After this, I was thinking I want a dog like Sandy. We can learn something from animals.”

And we totally agree with Kirk on this one!
