Meet Shortcake: a dog whose charismatic smile lights up every room that she’s in!
Sweet Shortcake was found on the street, and she had severe mange and a hernia. But even though the poor dog was in pain, she still kept smiling. The rescue group Fresno Bully Rescue saw a photo of Shortcake, and they couldn’t resist taking her in even though they didn’t have enough space.
Shortcake’s future owner, Amy Matsushima, saw a picture of the smiling dog online. Matsushima thought Shortcake’s smiling face was adorable, and she put in an application. She drove three hours from Southern California to Fresno to meet her. It was love at first sight!
Now, Shortcake is as happy as can be. She loves hanging out at the beach with her mom. She’s also very fond of her neighbor, Grant. The two have a great time playing together.
Shortcake also loves hanging out at Matsushima’s office, and her co-workers enjoy taking breaks from work to cuddle with her.
Shortcake also sometimes plays in the ocean with her friends.

She also goes for swims, where she’ll sometimes play catch with her favorite tennis ball.
But above all else, Shortcake’s favorite thing to do is sleep. “She sleeps most of the time. She’s basically like an old lady,” Matsushima told The Dodo.
Matsushima started an Instagram page for Shortcake, and her cheerful face has earned her plenty of fans. More than twenty thousand people follow the page, and they love seeing photos and videos of the things that Shortcake gets up to.
Whether she’s napping, playing, or just lazing around, Shortcake is always smiling. Matsushima loves having Shortcake in her life:
“Life in general feels definitely funner just having her in it. Cause she’s such a goofball and such a character. So it definitely brightens my day.”
