Walking the dog is very much healthy for them and you, too.
It is a form of exercise for both of you. We know how we humans can benefit from walking. Even if it is a low-impact exercise, walking for 10,000 steps a day can do wonders for our body.
Dogs need that same exercise, too. Like humans, a sedentary lifestyle can quickly contribute to them being overweight. Walking helps them lose extra weight, sleep better, and release any pent-up energy they have.
What would make one hesitant to walk their dogs?
Some dogs are pretty scared of the big bad world out there, and it would take a while to convince them to go out and walk. The more extroverted ones who love the outdoors tend to take their time smelling almost everything they see.
They can also get in plenty of trouble when they get too playful. It could be a headache for a dog owner (or walker). Imagine chasing that four-legged troublemaker around!
But most of the time, it is mostly a lot of fun.
They get to socialize with other dogs, and you can also socialize with other dog owners. And we know they love a few pets and high-fives.
But one thing that would always amuse the people around is when your dog turns into a total goofball. They’ll be a head-turner, for sure!
Peggy Kern found her dog’s inner goofball when she walked her one day.
She and her dog Minnie often go out for a walk. It is something both of them loved to do. But this time, she got lots of weird stares and a few laughs from people.
Peggy noticed that they were looking at Minnie and then at her. She wasn’t sure what was going on, and she even thought there might be something on her face!
“I had my headphones in and was listening to an audiobook, so I wasn’t sure what was going on and why people were staring at us more than usual,” she told The Dodo.
But when she checked on Minnie, she couldn’t believe what she saw.
She was biting or sucking a pacifier! Yes, like a baby. All the weird stares and laughs she saw from people made sense to her now. I mean, who wouldn’t give even a slight chuckle with that?
Peggy didn’t know where Minnie found it, but she thought she probably saw it along the way during their walk and picked it up.
She noticed that Minnie liked the pacifier, so she let her be.
Peggy saw how her dog seemed to enjoy the pacifier, so they continued to walk. She didn’t mind how people were looking at them – Minnie specifically. However, that did not last long.
“Towards the end, she ended up chewing it and breaking a piece off, so I had to take it away so she wouldn’t swallow anything,” Kern said.
