This story of a beautiful friendship all began in 2015 when a family in Lubbock, Texas decided to add a new furry member. They had just gotten a puppy in July of that year and wanted her to have a playmate.

Like many of us trying so hard to help the millions of unwanted animals in the U.S., they decided to adopt (not shop!).

Knowing that their Tamaskan Husky puppy Raven would suddenly have to share space (and hopefully spend a lot of time) with the new pet, a good fit was going to be key. So they wanted her to make the choice and sniff out her own new BFF.

So when they headed to their local animal shelter, Raven came along!

The choices were limited since the family already knew they wanted to get a kitten, so the shelter was accomodating to the family trying to thoughtfully choose to make a lifetime commitment to an animal.

“I had always wanted a dog and a cat to grow up together. It’s been like a life goal,” her owner Christina told the The Dodo back in 2016.

Raven and her family got a little space in which she was introduced to a group of four kittens to see if any were a good match.

“I wanted them to be able to get along well,” Christina said. “So I wanted her to actually meet the cat and have the cat get along with the dog as well.”

When the kittens were brought in, Raven was curious and gentle with each one – it’s just that most weren’t really into puppy nuzzles.

The family knew they would need a feline who wouldn’t shy away from or hide from a puppy (and let’s face it, sometimes even WE want to hide from puppies given how much energy they have.)

That left only one: Woodhouse.

The tiny male kitten and the female puppy got along famously and the family brought Woodhouse home where he and Raven are still besties today.

And while they were major cuddle bugs at first, it’s not something they commonly do as adults, though they simply love being by one another’s side.

“They are perfect with each other. They don’t cuddle as much as they used to when they were a puppy and kitten. But they’re still always together, always playing together.”

And, of course, playtime is their favorite time each day.

“Woodhouse actually chases the dog around the house,” she adds. “And they like to play tag.”

The family recently added yet another new member to their group – but this time it was a human baby, Penny, born in the summer of 2019.

The sweet dog and cat are getting along great with their new sister and their Instagram account is proof that this is one seriously adorable family.

Here’s a photo from Woodhouse’s very recent 5th birthday party:

Of course, everyone’s favorite time (except mom and dad’s) is now mealtime, for obvious reasons.
