I did not expect this to happen when these two faced off on the boardwalk!

David Putnam is a construction worker from Kodiak, Alaska and recently got a new puppy together with his wife Jo. The two were just walking their new pup in the area, and they suddenly spotted an otter, presumably a river otter.

Immediately, David and Jo’s new pup is extremely interested in the wild animal and decides to take a closer look. David is a bit reluctant at first to let his pup meet the river otter, but when he saw how good these two got along, he did not see any issues and let the two play.

After the two met and started playing, David took his smartphone and filmed their unusual interaction.

“This is crazy,” he said, to which his wife replied: “This is the craziest thing. Craziest.”

At first, it seems like the dog and the river otter are engaged in some sort of territorial fight, but it’s clearly all in good fun.

David’s pup gives the otter some cuddles and some licks and even has to be restrained a bit. The river otter responds accordingly by laying on his back so that David’s pup could come and give him a big hug.

The two keep playing for minutes and the other pedestrians started noticing their funny interaction.

“He wants nothing to do with our dog, but he totally loves yours,” one woman laughingly said.

As Jo said in the video, these two are certainly two unlikely friends.

“I love the way it walks, it’s so freaking cute,” Jo adds.

Even though David and Jo try their best to continue walking, the river otter keeps on following the trio and the pup doesn’t take his eyes off the otter as well.

Unfortunately, their playtime together had to come to an end.

“We should go get the kids,” David said.

The pup and the river otter then gave each other a goodbye hug and the dog even played around with the otter’s tail a little, before they departed. Even when they were leaving, the otter kept on following them around. Luckily for the otter, Jo has promised that they’d definitely come back and visit him again.

David posted the four-minute-long footage on his Facebook page but didn’t expect his post to go viral. The video has been seen over ten million times and has been shared more than 165,000 times.

“So this happened last night when Jo and I were walking our new puppy. I think the puppy has a new friend.” David wrote.
