A sweet Southern dog named Maggie was poised to find her forever home when she arrived in New York.

Before arriving at the North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington, the pit bull puppy mix was fostered by a little boy named Roman Duncan.

Roman fell so deeply in love with Maggie that the 6-year-old wanted to make sure that he wrote a letter to her new family telling her just how great she is.

Roman and his younger brother, Wyatt, loved spending time with Maggie.

So, when it was time for Maggie to be sent to the adoption center to find a forever home, Roman wanted to make sure her new family knew just how great she is.

So he wrote her a few notes.

“Dear Maggie New Faimly,

North Shore Animal League America’s Rescue Team Manager Karla Agostinello was taken aback when she came across Maggie’s file.

“I was so touched,” she told TODAY. “It’s hard (for fosters) to put the animals on the truck. So I do get a lot of letters from adults — but children, not many. So this is why it touched my heart so much.”

And those letters must have worked because Maggie found a brand new home.

Agostinello said she hopes to connect Roman with Maggie’s new family soon so he can see how the letters paid off.

“She’s doing great,” she said. “Her time with this family was very beneficial to her.”

Foster families are crucial in North Shore Animal League America’s operations.

“Foster families are so important because they’re the pet’s first stop — the first family. They’re instilling a foundation of love and care,” Jenna Martiello Jan, foster care manager for North Shore Animal League America.

Roman and Maggie’s story ended up going viral.

“Hope the little fellow is able to see the foster dog often. God bless him for writing the letters!!” wrote one person on Facebook.

“Beautiful! Who could resist this plea from a sweet little boy. Dogs are so loving and give it so unconditionally, you will never be sorry,” wrote another.
