How hard is it to drop your dog off at a local shelter or find someone else to care for it if you’re moving? Apparently, it’s too much to ask of some pet owners.
All too often people find pets left to die alone in a home after their humans have moved out.
The most common reason why people give up their dogs and cats, according to the American Humane Association, is because their place of residence doesn’t allow pets.
Unfortunately, there are some organizations that shame pet owners for surrendering their animals. So, instead of having to deal with those people and organizations, they just leave their pets.
That’s what happened to Jumping Bean.
This poor little pitbull was left chained up in a basement and left to die, or for the new owner to find, when her humans moved out. Thankfully the Stray Rescue of St. Louis got a call from the new homeowner.
“I just bought a house and there is a pit bull chained up in the basement. I’m not sure how long it’s been down there. I’ll send a friend over there to let you in,” the caller said.
When rescuers arrived, the found the dog looking so sad and desperate, but happy at the sight of some humans.
“When we opened the door to the basement and shined our flashlight down, we saw a wagging tail,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis Communications Director Natalie Thomson told The Dodo.
“She was nearly choking herself as she was so excited to see us. When we freed her, she couldn’t stop jumping up and down and giving hugs.”
The dog was thrilled knowing that she would no longer be living in such terrible conditions.
“We went downstairs to see where this dog had been living for an unknown period of time,” her rescue video shows. “Her chain was short there was a lot of poop, showing she had been down there for a while.”
It was clear that the pit bull had been severely neglected.
“There was no food or water bowls that we could see,” Thomson said. “She was not spayed and had no microchip.”
But despite her hardships, Jumping Bean was in the best of spirits.
“We named this girl jumping bean! We felt as though she was saying, ‘I am not to be ignored. I am a LIVING, BREATHING being and I deserve better,” the video said.
Jumping Bean was so very happy she couldn’t stop jumping around and was craving affection.
She just wagged her tail and was so happy to be pet and loved on.
“She wagged her tail and we smiled the whole freedom ride,” the video explains.
Jumping Bean’s demeanor was absolutely infectious.
“Her personality is completely adorable,” Thomson said. “She loves everyone she meets and craves attention. She makes sure she is not ignored! She’s an energetic and very affectionate pup! She is so happy all the time.”
