We all have that friend who will do anything on a dare! No matter what, they are usually the most adventurous, and sometimes dangerous, friends we know. Regardless of what they may sometimes do, we still love them! What happens when that friend is a dog?
Maverick is a German Shepherd who loves being out on the water.
There are a few dog breeds that love to adventure with their owners and German Shepherds are one of them! They are incredibly capable and curious dogs who always want to be in on the fun. The AKC says:
Generally considered dogkind’s finest all-purpose worker, the German Shepherd Dog is a large, agile, muscular dog of noble character and high intelligence. Loyal, confident, courageous, and steady, the German Shepherd is truly a dog lover’s delight.
With a name like Maverick, its no wonder this dog decided to do something risky!
In a viral video, we meet a German Shepherd named Maverick. He and his owners were riding in a boat when Maverick decided to do something a little crazy. It seems to make sense, too! “Mavericks” are individuals who don’t fall in line with most other people. They are defined as:
An unorthodox or independent-minded person.
Or in the case of this video, a dog!
Maverick is on the front of the boat with his owners when we start to notice some disturbances in the water. Soon we realize that this boat isn’t alone – there are dolphins! Dolphins are incredibly curious and will often visit boats that catch their attention.
As most people would do, the people in the boat started filming the dolphins.
Since it isn’t every day that you get to see a pod of dolphins swimming up next to your boat, a man had his phone out and was filming! Thankfully, he was filming when Maverick made his move.
With bubbles popping up all around the boat, Maverick wanted to know what was going on.
Dogs can always sense a human’s excitement or energy and Maverick knew that his humans were interested in what was happening under the water outside the boat. All it would take was one little thing to send him over the edge.
Finally, one of the dolphins surfaced right in front of the boat… and Maverick jumped right in!
Once Maverick saw the dolphin surface so close to him, he knew that he needed to go after it! His humans seemed to really like it and he probably just wanted to bring it back for them! Diving headfirst into the water, Maverick was officially overboard in front of a moving boat.
Thankfully, the boat wasn’t moving very fast.
Since they were going slow to begin with, Maverick wasn’t hurt. The man filming was even laughing as Maverick swam to keep up with the boat as they drifted to a stop. The older man on the boat was definitely surprised and a bit frustrated with Maverick. You could also tell that he was pretty amused!
After watching their dog jump into the water for a dolphin, these two humans never doubted their dog’s courage again!
It seems Maverick lived up to his name on the day this was filmed! Dogs really are incredible animals and friends.
