Dogs are known to be man’s best friend, but they’re also known for one thing: heroes.
We’ve heard so much news on how dogs saved their humans in a medical emergency or how K-9 officers have been essential in search and rescue operations.
But dogs have one trait that would sum up why they always save the day: loyalty.
No one could find a creature as loyal to a human as a dog.
If you own a dog, you will understand. It’s not only in how they answer to you but the way they wag their tails when you come home or the way they guard your home, alarming you when there’s a stranger on your property. Such loyalty!
This same loyalty is what a black Labrador had for his favorite little human.
A child was reported missing in Buena Vista Township, Atlantic County, which sent the troopers out looking for him and his black Labrador.
According to the New Jersey State Police, the four-year-old and his black Lab wandered away from their home until his parents realized he was missing.
The family called Buena Vista Station immediately, and an entire troop was sent to help with the search.
Aside from the police, their neighbors also participated in the search for the little boy. They went into the nearby woods, one of the easiest places to get lost.
Then, a neighbor called the station to report that they heard a little child crying.
Trooper Ian Emmi and the boy’s mother rushed to the location, almost half a mile from their house. A few moments later, they heard a faint cry of a child and were sure it was him.
They ran towards the cries, and there they saw the little boy.
He was standing in the middle of nowhere, his black Labrador by his side.
The child was crying – a mix of fear and relief – and the officer got him and handed him to his mother, who was just as relieved to be reunited with her son.
The black Labrador was there by his side, protecting his little human.
It took them less than an hour to track him, thanks to the concerned neighbors who called immediately.
The New Jersey State Police were happy to report that the child and dog were in good health despite the traumatic experience.
People praised the loyal dog for protecting the boy.
While many praised the troopers and the neighbors who participated in the search, a number also recognized how vital the dog’s role was in keeping the child safe.
The woods can be full of frightening creatures, especially for a lost and wandering toddler, but the dog stood by him.
Let this story remind parents to ensure they don’t lose sight of their children.
It’s so easy to let them play outside and assume they’re safe, but they could wander off easily with their curiosity. Lucky if they have a pet like this black Labrador to keep their child safe.
Parents can also install trackers on their children or pets so they can find them easily in case they run out of sight.
