No matter what cards a dog is dealt, they’re always determined to make the best out of every situation – and us humans should definitely take a leaf out of their books! Dogs are incredibly loving animals, and for them, every day is a new adventure. So when they’re faced with setbacks, they are always able to handle them in the best way possible.

A great example of this is the story of a Great Pyrenees puppy. The poor thing was found abandoned after being born with severe deformities – but instead of admitting defeat, the resilient pup took life in her stride and is now inspiring special needs children to love and embrace themselves, just like she does!

Halo the puppy was born with no front feet and a deformed back leg, and the poor animal was heartlessly abandoned in a box after her breeder deemed her useless.

Thankfully, she was rescued by Jamie Wallace-Griner, the founder of the Safe in Austin Rescue Ranch in Texas, and this rescue farm doesn’t discriminate.

After one of the dogs formed a special bond with Jamie’s son Jackson, who has autism, the awesome mom became inspired to adopt more special needs dogs, and arrange meetings between special needs children and the rescued animals. She wanted the children to feel like being different wasn’t necessarily a bad thing – and that they weren’t alone.

So when Jamie came across Halo, she knew instantly that she would be a perfect fit for the farm. Despite having to have her back leg amputated and her front two reconstructed, Halo never allowed life to get the better of her, and continued to be the loving, affectionate dog that she had always been.

While Halo got around by hopping, Jamie wanted to make things a little easier for her, and she ordered some prosthetic legs from OrthoPets. However, she had no idea how well Halo was going to take to her legs, and there was a chance that she could absolutely hate them.

But emotionally, Halo took to her leg better than anyone could have predicted, showing again just how resilient she was. And she didn’t just walk- she ran! Jamie shared the touching moment when Halo first tried on her new legs on Facebook, along with the caption,

“The plan was just to introduce her to them today. It was never to even attempt walking. She had different plans. She didn’t just walk….. she ran!”

In the emotional video, Jamie carefully attaches the prosthetics to Halo’s legs, before slowly helping her to her feet. However, what she doesn’t expect is for Halo to take off in her new legs and run around the enclosure! She’s taken them like a duck to water, and Jamie can’t help shedding a tear as she watches.

“It’s been an insane roller coaster of challenges and emotions over the last year,” Jamie added. “From the moment I brought this little wounded, 4-week-old, one-legged fluff ball home, I knew she was something special!”

We think so too! This is such a special moment that we just had to share the video with you. Watch the touching moment below, and don’t forget the tissues!
