For most of his life, a sweet dog named Arkin was in a public pound in Romania. The dog spent all his time in a small, dirty kennel. He was underweight and covered in scars and wounds. He also had a bad flea infestation. The poor dog had given up hope that he would ever be rescued—he didn’t even bark or whine when people walked past his cage. But from the look in his eyes, it was clear he was suffering.
Finally, someone came to save him: a worker from animal rescue organization Howl of a Dog.
When the rescuer first came to his cage, Arkin didn’t make a sound—it seemed like he couldn’t believe that someone was there to see him. Arkin stayed quiet as his rescuer took him out of his kennel and brought him over to Howl of a Dog’s rescue facility. The pup was calm as his rescuers gave him a bath to get rid of his fleas. He stayed silent as he ate the food his rescuers gave him.
Howl of a Dog’s staff worked with Arkin, trying to get him out of his shell. As he started getting more comfortable, he became less reserved, and his true playful personality came out.
Arkin began playing in the rescue facility’s yard, leaping through the grass and digging in the sand. He also made friends with some of the other pups at Howl of a Dog.
When Arkin was ready, Howl of a Dog began looking for a forever home for the pup. They searched far and wide for the right home for him. Finally, they found the perfect place for him.
In January 2018, Arkin went to his new home in New Hampshire.
Arkin absolutely loves his home and his family. He spends his time hiking on beautiful trails through the woods and playing with new owners. When he’s tired, he takes naps on his own bed.
Arkin had a rough start to life, but now, he’s in a wonderful home with owners who love him more than anything. If you want to learn more about Arkin’s story, check out the video below.
