Many people view their dogs as their furbabies and don’t like being separated from them. Naturally, the feelings are mutual for the dogs as well! This can be seen simply in the way they get so excited after their owners come home from a day at work – or perhaps even a store trip.
So can you imagine what their reaction would be if the separation period was a lot longer?
Military members stationed overseas know just what it’s like to be apart from their loved ones for a lengthy amount of time. This understandably can’t be easy for anyone involved (including their pets). If we’ve learned anything from the internet though – it certainly does make for some heartwarming and emotional reunions!
When one soldier returned home from Afghanistan, she witnessed just how much her golden retriever missed her.
The viral video was captured in the airport while she was being picked up by her family.
In the beginning, the woman can be seen reading a book in a chair, surrounded by her luggage. But the moment she spots her loved ones she cries out, “Aww!”
Surely each of the humans was aching to wrap their arms around the soldier. However, the pooch is given the first chance to welcome her home. After all, it’s her “Mom!”

The golden retriever goes up to her owner with her tail wagging. She immediately then starts whimpering in the most heart-melting way. It’s easy to see that she’s so happy to have Mom home, and frankly, it’s probably a little overwhelming!
By no surprise, the soldier seems just as happy to see her furbaby.
She sweetly pets her pooch and goes in for some belly rubs. While we don’t know exactly how long the woman was in Afghanistan – she’ll probably have lots of belly rubbing to do to make up for all the ones she missed! There are (of course) tons of kisses too.
This dog just wants to crawl into her mommy’s lap.
As the scene goes on, the sweetness continues. The dog puts her front legs over her mom’s as if she just wants to be cuddled like a baby. And with all the non-stop crying, it really is like she’s a giant baby!
According to Hill’s pet website, being affectionate is a personality trait of golden retrievers, along with being playful, intelligent, and even-tempered.
Come on, you gotta give everyone else a turn!
Although the soldier could probably sit and cuddle with her pooch for the rest of the day – there were human loved ones also waiting for hugs. She asks her dog, “I missed you too, can I say hi to everyone else?”
Understandably, the dog isn’t ready to stop snuggling up to Mom.
The family seems to know how close of a relationship the soldier has with her dog. After all, they even brought a sign that says “My Mom is Home from Afghanistan” with a dog print on it. So, they give a little more time for the two to reconnect.
Lots of viewers have commented about how adorable and tear-jerking the video is. One person wrote:
