Psychologists believe that one’s personality is partially based on genetics and partially based on circumstances. But despite the horrific experiences this dog suffered through, she remained that sweet girl at heart. Her story is enough to provide anyone with hope for a better future.
Lola is a pitbull who was dreadfully mistreated by her first owner. She was chained up inside an open garage for 8 long years. The poor dog was fed enough to be kept alive, but other than that she was completely neglected.
Perhaps Lola had tried to escape, but by the time her rescuers came those dreams were long gone. The pup had never been let off her leash. Fortunately, a woman saw the dog as she was walking by and called AMA Animal Rescue, an organization located in New York City.
The rescuers talked Lola’s owner into surrendering her. When they approached the dog, they were surprised to find an affectionate animal lovingly greeting them.
“We called her ‘wiggly butt,’” Michele Walsh, an AMA volunteer, explained to The Dodo. “She was wagging her cute little tail, super friendly, giving kisses and so happy to meet her rescuers. She let them take her off this chain, and they walked right out with her.”
The team took the dog to Animal Kind Veterinary Hospital; she was in desperate need of medical attention. She suffered from an enormous tumor growing on her back leg, and two more on her mammary glands.
“Thankfully, the tumors were benign and removed safely,” AMA shared in their video. “[Lola] also received a deep cleaning and extraction of rotten teeth.” It was a long road to recovery, but finally Lola was ready for adoption.
This adorable dog was adopted by Charlène van Saher. This doggie mommy lives in Manhattan and loves to watch her favorite girl relax.
Lola has proven herself an expert at comfort.
“She figured out where her little beds were, and what was soft and what was comfortable for her,” Charlène told The Dodo.
Lola loves to curl up on the couch.
But the bed is comfy, too.
This pup loves to lounge in the sun.
But her strangest behavior is stacking cushions.
“She actually took a throw pillow off of my bed, and put it into her dog bed,” Charlène recalled. “When I came home, her head was on it — she literally made herself a little bed in her bed with my pillow. It was like ‘The Princess and the Pea’ — I guess she liked having multiple cushions underneath her.”
This dog makes herself at home, no matter where she is.
Now she just focuses on relaxing and being loved.
“I think she looks better and better each day,” Charlène said. “They always say, ‘When you adopt a dog, you’re really saving two.’ That’s because you’re taking one, and you’re opening up a space for another dog to come into the shelter or the rescue group. I absolutely adore [Lola]; she’s added so much to my life already.”
This dog may have been through a lot, but she never lost her loving nature.
