One adorable pit bull that goes by the name Winston has best demonstrated the saying that “you are who you spend your time with.”
Winston has been surrounded by cats since he was adopted as a puppy by Beth Clark, his human.
He became familiar with cats early on since the Clarks foster and rescue them.
“He joined six cats,” Beth recalled. “They all bonded together in such a loving way.”
The lovely pooch was raised with several cats around him. He wasn’t around other dogs as much, so he began to exhibit certain cat-like traits. Beth posted a TikTok video of Winston which surprised quite a number of netizens.
The dog was demonstrating one behavior we all thought only cats could do—purring!
“Winston was raised with cats… so now he purrs when you pet him,” she captioned.
Winston makes a loud “purring” sound throughout the entire video. He seems fully at ease and is obviously enjoying every second!
Purring is the most common sound cats produce.
It’s a vibratory sound that’s soft and buzzing with a usual frequency of about 25 Hz. What people commonly say about it is that cats purr when they’re happy and at peace.
While this is true, there are actually other reasons why cats would purr. Apparently, the act of purring is a cat’s way to communicate, self-soothe, or heal. Thus, kitties also purr when they’re hurt or if they are stressed.
Experts believe that purring is partly voluntary and partly instinctive.
During their early life, kittens purr to inform their mothers where they are and to promote feeding time. The reasons behind the behavior eventually evolve as they grow.
It was when the dog was 4 months old that Beth noticed him making this strange sound whenever she petted him.
“At first, I was taken aback,” Beth recalled. “But I quickly figured out that what he was actually doing was a vocal expression of contentment that he had learned from his siblings.”
To this date, the video has garnered almost 300k likes and 3800+ comments.
Looks like a lot of people are as amazed as we are. While some people adored the adorable dog, others were puzzled by his cat-like mannerisms.
And if you thought that was all, you’re absolutely wrong! Winston also comes when called like a cat. Isn’t that insane?
In a subsequent video, Beth recorded herself yowling the “ps ps ps” sound.
Winston stares at her right away before hopping off the couch to come to Beth. The lovely pittie may be a huge dog on the outside but surely is a softie on the inside.
A lot of people were also curious as to whether there were any images or videos of Winston as a puppy. They were wondering what he looked growing up like surrounded by cats. He was an instant celebrity!
We may not fully understand how Winston developed the behavior but we sure think it’s the most irresistible thing!
