Older brothers have the unique responsibility of looking out for their younger siblings! When it comes to “Older brother duties,” few are more important than the role of teacher. As an older brother, teaching your younger siblings how to do things may be the best part of the job!
Apparently, that role extends to more than just humans.
We have all heard of the “pack mentality” of wolves. In the wild, wolves all occupy special positions based off of their age! The mom and dad are in charge (per usual), and the older brothers and sisters help with the hunting. The little ones learn how to hunt from joining the pack as they grow older!
Wolves live in family groups called packs. A pack is usually made up of a male parent, a female parent and their pups from the last few years. Usually, four to six pups are born together in a litter. The pups in alitter are called litter mates. – Wolf.org
Knowing this, it makes sense that dogs have some of the same behavior.
We have all seen a dog’s “pack instinct” in action. Whether it’s looking out for the new babies at home or waiting till everyone else eats to eat, the wolf is always present, even in the cutest of dogs. That pack instinct has also caused some really adorable moments!
Contrary to popular belief, a dog will be “packmates” with almost any animal.
Even dog’s worst enemies, cats, are open to adoption by certain types of dogs! As long as they are introduced early, a dog has no issue with having a sibling that isn’t of the same species.
One German Shepherd shows his true feelings about having a cat as a brother!
Of all the dog breeds, German Shepherds are still pretty close to wolves (at least in the way they look). Tennyson is a German Shepherd who was just “told” that he would have a new little brother. The only issue was that the new sibling wasn’t a dog; it was a cat!
Thankfully, Tennyson seems to be one of the kindest dogs around.
We know that Tennyson is such a good boy because of a video that his owners posted. In this video, we see Tennyson walking up the stairs, only to stop and realize something was wrong.
Tenny proceeds up the stairs and we see he was standing over a cat!
The adopted “packmate” sees his brother climbing the stairs and decides that he wants to go too! Chasing his older brother, the kitten does his best to make it up the big stairs.
The kitten soon tires and is a little afraid of the stairs.
When Tenny noticed his brother was slacking, he took matters into his own paws. Reaching down and grabbing the kitten by the head, he carries him up the stairs like a patient mother! While the kitten would probably have preferred Tenny grabbed him by his neck scruff, beggars can’t always be choosers. Once they both get to the top, they, of course, take a snuggle break.
