Baby Amelia, nicknamed Mia, is almost ready to learn how to crawl. Mia’s mom knows the right trick to keep Mia’s progress going. She enlisted the help of Niko the family dog, who is already very protective over Mia. Niko, ever the attention hog, is up to the challenge, but she only has one concern.
Did they really have to teach Mia so early in the morning?
Niko is only one of the three family pets that will grow up with Mia. Niko and Phil are the two family dogs and Milo is the family cat. The three pets already have a very strong connection with Mia in their own ways. Milo is a Siberian cat, whom are known for being very affectionate and loving to children.
Niko and Phil might look like fluffy Siberian Huskies, but they are actually Alaskan Malamutes.
Malamutes, “…are friendly, intelligent dogs that love people… they use their independence and intelligence to establish relationships with people they come in contact with, whether they are family members or strangers. These dogs make superb companions as they are anxious to please and eager to take part in an active and exciting life.”
Niko is no exception to her breed. The activity is where Mia is at, so Niko is right there beside her. It was an early morning for the family since Mia woke up at 5:00 AM, yet tired Niko did not leave Mia’s side. Mia has already learned to roll over and Niko is no fan of it.
Niko worries over Mia when she rolls over and cannot get herself back over.
Mia’s mother wants Niko to be the family member to teach Mia how to crawl. Since Mia and Niko already have a great bond it sounds like a smart idea. Mia is up on all four trying her best to crawl, but all that is happening is her rocking back and forth.
Niko protectively watches Mia care as she gets closer and closer to the edge.
Mia’s mother puts Mia in a better position on the bed for her crawling lesson. She is starting straight at Niko, as Niko prepares to teach Mia. Niko demonstrates that Mia has to put her arms forward, not just her body, to be able to move. Mia already seems very confused by the action.
Mia decided to show off what she already know instead, a perfect rollover.
Niko looks at their mom as if to tell her with her eyes that this baby is just not understanding.
Being a crawling instructor so early in the morning is making Niko even more tired, so she needs a break. She takes a big yawn and stops the lesson. That is alright with Mia who starts talking to her big, fluffy best friend. Then, before you know it the lesson is back on.
Niko is now on the opposite side of Mia to give her more space to crawl. Niko crawls all the way to the end of the bed as Mia watches on. Niko pleads with her eyes again that Mia is just not going to understand yet. Niko gives it a few more tries at the insistence of their mom before giving up.
Mia is just going to need to have more lessons.
Since Niko was such a good girl and instructor, she gets rewarded with a nice breakfast and playtime with Phil.
