Dogs are well known for their loyalty. There is nothing a dog wouldn’t do for his loving family. Sometimes that means taking drastic measures to be with them. You’ll never guess what this Great Pyrenees did to return to his owners.
General is a beloved member of the Campbell family. When the family went away on vacation, they left him in a kennel to keep him safe. General missed the Campbells too much to wait for them to return. He decided to be proactive and go to them.
General made a masterful escape from the Aquia-Garrisonville Animal Hospital in Stafford, Virginia. Late at night, when no one but the surveillance camera was watching, the dog let himself out of his pen! Pushing through a door is no easy task for a pup, but that is not the only incredible feat General accomplished.
After finding his way through a second door, General met an unexpected obstacle. Before him was yet another door, but he couldn’t get through this one just by pushing. In a stroke of genius, the dog actually turned the handle to get out the door! He took the handle in his mouth, pulled down, and swung the door open. He quickly caught the door with his nose and scurried through the opening before it could shut on him. This is one clever dog.
Against all odds, General made it out of a fourth door and found his way to freedom. The escape artist slowly sauntered off into the night. The hospital couldn’t believe what had happened. When they realized General was missing, they immediately called his family to break the news.
The Campbell family was extremely worried about their pet. They posted a message on Facebook alerting neighbors of their lost dog. “We can’t bear the thought of losing him!” they posted, hoping someone would spot the 10-year-old pup. Luckily, they soon found him relaxing in their next-door neighbor’s yard. General went through a great deal of trouble to get back to them.
The Campbells are reunited with General, and they couldn’t be happier to have him back. General has definitely proven his ingenuity and his commitment to his family.
