Everyone, apparently, is welcome into the convenience store/gift shop at the Horsetooth Inn and RV Park which lies at the foot of the Rockies in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Even the animals, though they don’t encourage it.
An exception, however, occurred last week when a wild doe wandered into to do a little last minute holiday shopping, according to The Dodo. Lori Jones was attending the store when the doe stopped by for a visit.
Now, Lori is used to seeing lots of wildlife in the area but she never had a wild animal come into her store before.
Apparently, the doe poked her head in and walked right on through the door before she decided to shop around.
“It was hilarious,”Lori told The Dodo. “She was looking at the sunglasses and the chips. I was laughing so hard.”
The doe is a known matriarch of a deer family that lives in the area and often passes through to graze a bit. However, she’s never stopped by the store before.
Lori knew that it probably wasn’t a good idea for her to stay any longer so she lured the deer back into the forest with a peanut bar.
And it worked, but that wasn’t the last she would see of the doe. Lori was doing inventory in the office and when she came out noticed that the deer returned about a half an hour later with her entire family.
“I walked out and there she was with her twins and a lone buck that she nursed,” Lori told FOX News. “I just used my phone to snap the pics.”
The little twins stood back but their older sibling was ready to walk right in and had one foot in the door. However, Lori had to draw the line somewhere.
“They were just looking in the doorway like, ‘Can we come in too?’ I said, ‘No,’” Lori told The Dodo. “It was so funny.”
Lori didn’t want the deer family to get too used to being inside the store so she used another peanut bar to lure them all out onto the field outside.
She told the momma to “take your children home” as they scampered away.
“It was just a lovely thing to see,” Jones said. “The population of wildlife here is just astounding. We have mountain lions, bighorn sheep, deer, raccoons — you name it. They have to fend for themselves. That’s nature. But I think they’re all wonderful.”
