Deer are extremely timid woodland animals. They don’t usually interact with other species and they would instantly sprint away the moment they see people around the area. However, since they are also curious creatures, they might get the urge to interact with species other than themselves.

They say dogs and deer usually can’t get along with each other.

There are plenty of incidents reported of dogs chasing deer. According to an article written on Idaho Official Government Website:

“When dogs meet deer and natural predatory instincts take over, the chase is on.”

It doesn’t matter if you think your dog is gentle and tame, as long as its hunter instincts kick in, they will always make chase to an unknown intruder.

However, that is not always the case, in fact, this certain clip will prove that dogs wouldn’t always give in to their own predatory instincts.

Yukon the Golden Retriever was having a great time walking with his owner at the nearby river. While he’s busy looking for rocks, a deer named Daisy came to check on him.

The curious deer slowly crept towards the busy dog from behind. However, she just can’t control her excitement as she started hopping around the water. Despite that, Yukon was left unbothered and continued instead on his rock searching activity.

The deer probably wanted to make friends with him.

It’s unusual for visitors such as Yukon to visit the river, which is probably why Daisy became excited. Since she’s an abandoned deer, she might have thought about making friends with Yukon.

The pooch continued to dip his snoot to search for the perfect rock. Meanwhile, you can see Daisy in the background trying to get him to notice her. She hops and prances while circling the dog, splashing water everywhere. However, it seems Yukon’s too busy to even give Daisy a single glance.

Finally, Yukon found the rock he’s looking for.

The enthusiastic deer never stopped playing around the water, but still, Yukon couldn’t care any less. As Yukon finally fished a giant rock with his mouth, he immediately got out of the water bringing his rock-hunting trophy with him. It’s quite rare seeing a dancing deer, but Yukon thought that his priceless rock is much better.

The adorable clip became viral on YouTube.

Thankfully, Yukon’s owner was able to tape the whole thing and was kind enough to share the wholesome clip on YouTube. It garnered over five million views on the platform with people sharing their hilarious comments about it. One of them wrote:

“I love how the deer is all like, PLAY WITH MEEEEEEEEEE, and the dog is just like, DUDE CAN’T YOU SEE I’M BUSY COLLECTING ROCKS? Go home deer, you’re drunk.”

One even shared an idea on why the deer became comfortable playing along with the dog in the river.

“Doggie’s lack of interest signaled to be non-threatening to the deer…And therefore made the deer feel more comfortable to invite the dog to play,” a commenter wrote.

There is always the next time.

Despite the one-sided interaction, both seem to have tons of fun by themselves. The great thing is Yukon and his owner frequently take their walks at the river. Hopefully, the two would finally get the chance to play with each other, or perhaps fish for rocks together.
