For the past few months, people have been desperate for a haircut. With the coronavirus lockdown keeping people from the salons and barbers, some people have resorted to allowing their significant others to try their hand with the shears. The results have been… interesting, to say the least!
Whether animal or human, we all need a haircut once in a while.
Animal shelters and human societies are probably rarely surprised at this point. From the wild things they have seen, it takes a lot to impress them or surprise them. One story, however, may just do it. While humans are searching for haircuts wherever they can find them, one cat needed more than just a trim.
Fluffer is a cat that was brought into the Arizona Humans Society.
The name was a fit for an obvious reason. When rescuers found the cat, they didn’t realize it was even an animal at first. Covered by matted hair and fur, Fluffer was completely invisible within her cocoon. After being transferred to the Arizona Humane Society’s Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital, the feline got sent to the “salon.”
The doctors were astonished at the ball of fur.
It is difficult to describe just how unkempt the feline was. When Fluffer was first brought in, they weren’t even sure if they were able to identify her as a cat! Now that her time had come for a haircut, everyone was excited to see her new look.
Julie Bolchalk is an animal medical technician who had never seen anything this bad.
Seeing thousands of animals didn’t prepare Julie for the incredible matting that Fluffers was carrying around. She said:
“I have seen some rather horrific cases in my time rescuing animals, but had never seen matting this bad – they were larger than her entire body.”
Fluffers was the definition of a lady through the whole process.
Learning what the phrase “beauty is pain” means became a reality for Fluffers over the next hour. Taking that long just to remove the hair goes to show just how bad it was. Even though they poked, prodded, and cut away, Fluffers was a champ.
“She was very sweet and got groomed without having to be sedated which is a miracle.”
Slowly, the hair was removed to reveal the adorable creature within.
Losing 2lbs of pure hair, Fluffers probably felt like a new cat! The new and improved Fluffers is hardly identifiable from the cluster of knots and hair that we saw before.
The reason that she was in the condition is heartbreaking.
Much of the rescued pets are abandoned by unloving and uncaring owners. They will dump their animals and take off in their car, never to return. This wasn’t the case for Fluffers, though.
“Sadly, Fluffer was rescued when her owner passed away so in this case, charges were not filed. It’s a sad situation all around.”
After getting 25% of her body weight removed, Fluffers was ready for a new family.
Since she was such a cute cat, the shelter knew that she would be adopted quickly. They knew that her yellow eyes and sweet demeanor would go a long way in winning over a new family. Thankfully, Fluffers was adopted just two days after her haircut. She had found a new forever home.
