Horses are appealing to young kids. They like these animals because they’re proud, beautiful, sleek and generally elegant. They can also be ridden so this makes them even more attractive to kids’ eyes.

But what if you wanted a horse and your parents insisted on telling you you can’t have one?

Would you respect their decision and look for another hobby? Would you moan all the time until you got them to get you the horse or would you be more creative?

A 15-year-old girl from Laufen, southern Germany, desperately wanted a horse. When her parents made it clear that they were not going to get one for her, she tried to get creative. What would be the best substitute for a horse- a well-behaved animal that can obey commands?

Unlike what you might have expected, all of these characteristics 15-year-old Regina Mayer found in the face of a young cow they already had on their farm.

“She was really well behaved and walked normally,” Mayer told the reporters that arrived at the farm to find out whether she could really ride a cow. “But after a couple of meters, she wanted me to get off! You could see that she got a bit nervous.”

It took Regina two years to train Luna the cow to jump obstacles with her riding it.

It sure wasn’t an easy task, but with the right amount of determination and persistence, she did it.

At first, even her neighbors thought that what she was trying to do was quite weird.

“At first, I thought it was weird,” one of Regina’s neighbors told the camera. “A kid on a cow? I had to get used to it. But then I thought it was pretty fun,” he admitted.

However successful she may have been with Luna’s training, Regina hasn’t yet given up the thought of a real horse. She still wants to get one, but she assures everyone that Luna will always be her favorite.

Now, you might think this story is crazy, but what would you say if we told you that Luna is not the only one who has tried to turn a cow into a show horse?

Well, a few years ago, Georgia Auricht, a 12-year old from the Kulgera Police Station, decided to turn to a cow for riding when she was denied a horse by her parents. Georgia managed to break in several cows and calves which she had taken to several shows.

“I first started with a milk crate trying to get on their back, then I started with a motorbike helmet, then a push bike helmet, and finally I got on the back and I started rounding them up and hopping on their back and I just trained them,” she said.

Now, some might be asking if cow riding is even safe for the animals since they were not made to be ridden.

According to the RSPCA, cow riding is potentially harmful to the animals.

“We’d be worried about any potential damage to her udders. Riding a cow is definitely not something we’d recommend,” they told The Guardian.

In any case, this is a unique sight and it is kind of fun to watch, exactly because it is so rare.
