Merriam-Webster defines flirting as, “to behave amorously without serious intent” or “to show superficial or casual interest or liking”.
Now flirting between humans is pretty normal but animals flirting with humans?
This may be the first time a cow did. With a lineman.
These linemen were working on installing a new fiber optic cable near a field that had cows in Shipshewana, Indiana.
The cows, like most animals, were very curious with regards to the presence of the men. The guys kept working and it was all going fine when suddenly one of the cows decided to come closer.
A cow coming closer would normally be a cute moment where a person would just say hi and even take a picture. But one of the workers decided to engage the cow with turkey-sounding noises.
The lineman stuck his tongue out and “gobbled” at the cow. And the cow responded!
The video’s description gave an idea of what happened.
“Our company was putting in new fiber optic cable and was working in front of an Amish farm. It was the day before Thanksgiving and the guys were ready for the holiday and playing around. The rest is on video.”
What would you have done?
The lineman was obviously having a great time with he and cow going back and forth exchanging gobbling noises. One of those moments we wish we knew what the animal was thinking.
At least work wasn’t boring that day.
The cow seemed really into the guy, giving him her full attention with those noises. If the lineman needed lessons on flirting, this was it.
Let’s hope he got her number!
You have to admire how the guys, though amused by the incident, still kept working. Maybe they were eager to finish early since it was Thanksgiving the next day.
Turkey, not beef.
Imagine spending your entire day in a field without socializing with anyone, them comes the guys out to do a job. Can’t really blame the cow for interacting.
Women like to complain that men can’t communicate. Men do the same with their buddies.
Well this is great communication from two complete strangers!
See cows are actually gentle. They do like affection and do like to interact. Bonus points if you pet and stroke them. And they are social creatures.
Cows are intelligent. Surely this one knew that the lineman was interested in a light chat.
This was one day at work these linemen won’t ever forget. It made the day’s work and pay so much more worth it.
And they say cows have great memories so surely she’ll never forget her new friend. Maybe he’ll come back and visit her every now and then.
Who knew that gobbledygook could start an amazing friendship?
So the next time you’re out and see a bunch of cows, try to approach and make strange noises. That’s flirting 101 apparently.
