We can’t save all dogs, but we try to help in any way we can.
All animal lovers know this feeling. The moment we see a stray cat or dog wherever we go, our hearts drop for them, and we hope we can take them in when we can. However, we have limitations, so rescuing every animal in need can be pretty impossible.
Sometimes, situations fall into our laps, and we know there’s no going back.
We heard many stories about how they got their pets, and those adorable, heartwarming ones are often called “foster fails.” But while they failed at fostering, these families are winners for giving a stray animal a new home.
Sarah and her husband found themselves in the situation and weren’t even sure about it.
They were in the woods when they saw something that looked like a polar bear. She looked closer and realized it was a fluffy, white dog that seemed to need help. Sarah was very much willing to help the poor dog, but the problem was it kept running away.
She realized she had to earn the dog’s trust first and not be too eager to catch her.
Slowly but surely, the stray dog calmed down in Sarah’s presence until she finally got the chance to get near her. Sarah named her Jolene.
Her husband carried the poor dog and loaded her into their car. It was when they brought her home that they noticed she was limping.
Sarah and her husband went to the vet the next day to have Jolene checked.
There was no microchip on her, so she could not find where she belonged. The veterinarian also said she was between two and three years old, and his biggest concern was Jolene’s hip.
She was in bad shape and needed some medical attention and rehabilitation. This also gave them the idea that Jolene’s owner must have left her in the woods because of it.
The couple dedicated time, money, and effort to Jolene’s recovery.
When they felt it was the perfect time, they introduced Jolene to their other dog, Hannibal. Time went by, and Jolene grew more comfortable in their home, especially with Sarah’s husband.
She would snuggle with him and give him kisses every chance she could. It was a sweet sight to see.
Jolene and Hannibal also became best buddies.
They would play with each other, which Sarah fondly called “floof off” because they looked like two floof balls softly bouncing off each other.
It was a touching moment to see how gentle Hannibal was when playing with Jolene because of her bad hip, and he waited until she was fully healed before they played all out!
But the happiest part of this story? Sarah and her husband decided to adopt Jolene.
The way she softened up to Sarah, got close to her husband, and enjoyed playing with Hannibal – all these stitched together and made their family whole. Sarah could not imagine their family without Jolene.
