This may be hard to believe, but chipmunks don’t actually sing or perform. More likely, a chipmunk would rather run from tree to tree eating nuts, fallen vegetation, and sometimes the odd bug.

Being very small, they’re also quite vulnerable.

This chipmunk, Chucky, found herself in a home in Korea after suffering an injury.

Documenting her road to recovery is the channel Choo Choo’s story. Typically, a rescue channel would cover cats and dogs. But hey, it’s furry and runs on all fours, so it’s close enough.

But what happened to her?

This family found Chucky the Chipmunk resting in a drawer one day.

When your bedside drawer has a chipmunk in it instead of clothes, then something’s not right.

Chucky wouldn’t move and was content to rest in the drawer. Hey, I know the drawer is comfy and has good acoustics, but you can’t stay in there all day!

After some nudging and enticing, the family eventually got Chucky out of the drawer.

But that would be easier said than done.

Chucky didn’t seem to have any obvious wounds.

Chucky was jittery. She would recoil when they attempted to touch her or offer her food. What was wrong with her?

Judging from her movements and the lack of any obvious wounds, their lead hypothesis was that Chucky might have a head injury that affected her movement. She also showed a bit of a limp in one of her arms.

Maybe she had a nasty fall? The poor thing.

Chucky ran all over their house like she wanted to get back home. Except they couldn’t let her leave in the condition she was in.

She had to stay a while and recuperate.

And recuperation meant the occasional treat of some nuts and mealworms.

In case you’re wondering, yes, mealworms are a perfectly acceptable source of food for a chipmunk. They are omnivorous, after all.

When they’re not eating nuts, fruits, or grass, they’re also happy to eat small animals. That can mean bugs, baby birds, or even small frogs.

Chipmunks are not picky eaters, basically. Makes you wonder what Dave was feeding Alvin, Simon, and Theodore.

Chucky spent days running around the house looking for the exit. “The meal worms were nice, but I really have to go” she probably thought.

Slowly, Chucky got back some of her strength. They could see that she wasn’t limping as much as before.

And she was still going on her search for an exit. Well, if she wanted to leave that badly, who were they to stop her?

That wouldn’t be the last they’d see of Chucky, though. She returned some weeks later after recovering.

This time, she was happy to eat nuts from a bowl and let people pet her. Guess trust just took some time to build, huh?

Now, they suspect Chucky is moving in front of their home for the time being. They’re probably going to see her more often. What a happy ending!
