Johanna is the owner of a corgi named Irma. Irma has always been a fun dog and has brought a lot of light to her life. Johanna would do anything to make Irma happy and the dog seems to feel the same way towards her.
Corgis are small dogs, but they are full of personality.
According to the American Kennel Club,
“At 10 to 12 inches at the shoulder and 27 to 30 pounds, a well-built male Pembroke presents a big dog in a small package. Short but powerful legs, muscular thighs, and a deep chest equip him for a hard day’s work. Built long and low, Pembrokes are surprisingly quick and agile. They can be red, sable, fawn, and black and tan, with or without white markings.
The Pembroke is a bright, sensitive dog who enjoys playing with his human family and responds well to training. As herders bred to move cattle, they are fearless and independent. They are vigilant watchdogs, with acute senses and a “big dog” bark. Families who can meet their bold but kindly Pembroke’s need for activity and togetherness will never have a more loyal, loving pet.”
When Irma became pregnant, she and her family were thrilled.
They couldn’t wait to welcome the babies into their lives. They took her to the vet and found out that she was expecting a litter of seven puppies. While this might seem like a lot, it’s actually the average number of puppies that the breed usually has per pregnancy.
Everything seemed to be fine during the pregnancy, but when Irma went into labor, her owner realized she was not dealing with it well. She was afraid that Irma wasn’t going to be able to give birth to all of the puppies. It turns out, she was right. Irma needed a C-section to deliver the babies. Her owners rushed her to the vet, but sadly, all seven puppies died. Irma and her owners were devastated.
Irma’s owner Johanna brought her home and tried to cheer her up.
It was clear that Irma was grieving the loss of her pups and nothing that Irma could do would make her happy. She had been preparing to become a mother and all of a sudden all of her puppies were taken away from her before she ever got the chance to care for them.
Johanna knew that Irma needed to mother something.
If she couldn’t have puppies of her own, Johanna thought she might make a great mother to another baby. She brought home a tiny kitten that had been abandoned and in need of a home. It even matched Irma in color.
Irma took right to the kitten and started caring for it.
It seemed to give her a purpose and she felt like its mother. She didn’t mind that it was a kitten and not a puppy. To her, it was her baby and it needed all the love, care, and protection she could give it. She started to cheer up.
Irma is clearly a great mother and the kitten has really changed her life. She went from moping around the house every day and being sad about her puppies to feeling like she has a baby of her own. Her motherly instincts kicked back in and she has started raising the kitten as her own.
She feeds it, keeps it warm, helps it use the bathroom and snuggles with it at night.
She does everything a mother should do and her owner is glad that she came up with the idea. The entire family was devastated at the loss of the puppies and the sadness Irma was feeling. One little kitten changed all that. It brought happiness back into their home and they are all thankful for it.
Love knows no boundaries and all it took to cheer up Irma was to find a way to allow her to show all the love she had been saving for her puppies. She is a truly amazing little dog and she will no doubt do great with this kitten.
