As quick as snakes can be, they can sometimes get themselves caught up in compromising situations.
Like this adorable cobra who got himself stuck in a fence.
Thankfully there were some kind folks around who were compassionate enough to save this potentially dangerous creature.
According to Live Science, cobras are elapids which is a poisonous snake with hollow fangs.
Those fangs are fixed at the top of the snake’s jaw at the front of the mouth giving them that extra gruesome look.
This helps them to hold their fangs into their prey so they can inject them with venom.
Their venom is a neurotoxin that can stop their victim’s breathing and heartbeat.
Cobras will attack humans only if they feel threatened and their bite can be deadly if not properly treated.
The cobra’s head and that cool piece that flares out at the neck were caught through a hole in some chicken wire.
And he honestly looked pretty chill just looking around and waving his forked tongue around.
Some helpers came along with some wire cutters but the snake didn’t like that.
He started twisting around violently. This made it very hard for rescuers to cut him free.
But eventually, they got the snake on an angle and the snake got used to the wire cutters coming toward him.
He would nip at it a bit but eventually calmed down enough to be cut free.
After that, he was pretty calm. He didn’t hiss or spit or try to fight.
He did fan out his illustrious cobra neck hood a bit.
Cobras, which can be black, dark brown, or yellowish-white, have muscles in their neck that flare out.
They will usually do this when they feel threatened.
“The most well-known distinctive physical characteristic of cobras is their hood,” Sara Viernum, a herpetologist based in Madison, Wisconsin told Live Science. “Hooding occurs when the snake spreads out its neck ribs forming a flattened, widened section of its body near the head.”
They’ll also raise up their bodies while they spread their hood to seem bigger and more dominating.
They might even give out a loud hiss.
Thankfully this fellow didn’t seem to be a spitting cobra. If he was he would be able to spit venom at a distance of about 6.5 feet.
Once the snake was finally freed he was tamed with a stick and shuffled into a bag. That way he could be safely transported away to a more secluded area.
Many commented on Facebook how brave the rescuers were.
“I really do like snakes, I’d consider that situation more terrifying than cute though lol. Glad they saved the little guy, I would not have the cajones to do that particular rescue myself,” wrote on commenter.
There were others, however, who said they wouldn’t have shown that snake any mercy at all.
