When an animal is left at a shelter, they understandably are confused. The animal doesn’t know why they’ve left the home they’ve always known or why their owner is suddenly no longer in their life.
All the animal knows is that they’re in a new place, surrounded by loud sounds and unfamiliar smells.
A little Chihuahua is a good example of this confusion shelter animals face. She didn’t understand why she had lost her home. One moment, the one-year-old dog was enjoying a typical life with her owner. But the next, she was left at Carson Animal Shelter in California, an overcrowded shelter that allowed euthanasia.
The heartbroken Chihuahua cried herself to sleep at night as the other dogs barked around her.
Animal rescue group Saving Carson Shelter Dogs shared a Facebook video of the dog, hoping to draw attention to her plight.
The rescue group also put up a Facebook post sharing details about the little Chihuahua.
In the post, Saving Carson Shelter Dogs wrote:
“I’m an approximately 1 year old female Chihuahua. I am not yet spayed. I have been at the Carson Animal Care Center since 1/20. I will be available on 1/24. You can visit me at my temporary home at C210.”

Thankfully, this story has a happy ending.
A woman saw the post and contacted a friend who was interested in adopting a dog. The woman quickly swooped in and saved the pup.
The little Chihuahua is now happily living in Missouri with owners who love her. We’re so glad she got her happy ending.
After everything that she went through, this Chihuahua deserves a lifetime of happiness!
The rescue group Saving Carson Shelter Dogs does an excellent job drawing attention to dogs who need a home. They often post new videos and photos of the dogs in the shelter. Their work has helped many dogs find great forever homes.
In their ‘About’ statement on their Facebook page, Saving Carson Shelter Dogs explains their simple but very important mission:
“Welcome! Our goal is simple:We help promote Carson Shelter dogs by filming videos of them and post to social media to make it easier for legitimate adopters, rescue groups, & owners looking for their strays to all find their dogs more easily.”
