Adam Tiernan and his family are the happy owners of a lovable flock of chickens and roosters. These animals spend their time in the Tiernans’ backyard, roaming around freely. One day, the Tiernans decided to grow their flock by incubating a few of their chickens’ fertilized eggs. They set up an incubator and waited for the little chicks inside the eggs to hatch.
Unfortunately, despite doing everything they could, only one of the eggs was viable. The chick began hatching, but she had some trouble escaping her shell. Her new family helped her get out. Once she was free from the egg, the Tiernans learned that she was born with curled toes. Because of that, she would not be able to stand or walk on her own.
The Tiernans immediately headed online to see if they could find any solutions to fix the chicken’s feet. After a little bit of searching, they discovered that all they had to do was extend the chick’s toes and apply masking tape to them. In about a week, her toes would almost be as good as new.
The Tiernans applied the tape to the chick’s toes and helped her to her feet. And just like that, she began walking!
A week after that, the Tiernans took the tape off of the little chick’s toes. “We put the chick on the counter to see if it could keep its toes straight, and the little thing took off at full speed; almost ran off the counter!” Adam Tiernan told The Dodo.
After seeing her antics, the family named the chick Nitro. Nitro is now able to walk around with ease, and she’ll soon join the rest of the flock outside. Thanks to a simple pair of masking tape shoes, Nitro will be able to have a wonderful life with both her chicken and human families!
