Most of us who have cats know how much they like to sneak off to tiny isolated spots for a snooze. Many cats love to hang out in small receptacles where they feel safe and sound.

Take boxes for examples.

There’s nothing a cat loves more than a good box to take a nap in and escape the rest of the things going on in their home.

Sometimes this habit of cats can be quite a nuisance when you’re trying to find them. But one Italian cat’s love of cardboard boxes ended with them going on the greatest adventure of their life.

According to The Dodo, this cat lives with its human in the city of Lecce, which is located on the “heel” of Italy’s boot-shaped peninsula. Last week, the cat made a cozy napping space out of a large cardboard box that she found in her home.

Little did this cat know while they were snoozing away that they would soon be taking a tour of Italy.

A nine and a half hour tour of Italy that spanned 984 miles.

The box was in the cat’s home because the cat’s human needed to ship something. The cat’s human, however, had absolutely no idea that her cat called dibs on the box.

She had no clue that the cat was in the box and packed it up, sealed it shut, and shipped the box off to its destination in the Italian northern city of Vicenza.

The cat ending up traveling in that cardboard box for four whole days.

When the package arrived at the Vicenza sorting facility the package sorters were completely shocked to see the box moving. When they opened it the poor scared little kitty jumped out.

The cat was dehydrated but other than that in good health. A spokesperson for CGIL Vicenza told The Dodo that the cat was found “understandably tired but healthy.”

In the meantime, the cat’s human was had spent the last four days “desperate because she had not found her cat for days.”

Thankfully, they had the return address and were able to contact the cat’s human.

When she found out her cat was nine and a half hours away, she immediately took the drive to go get her cat. We’re pretty sure that’s going to be the last time she ships a package without thoroughly check the box first!
