Cats, like people, are individuals. There’s no point discriminating. When it comes down to it, we all have our own likes, preferences, and quirky little habits that make us who we are. Sometimes, these things are unexplainable (even to ourselves). Other times, there’s a good reason behind them, one that someone could quickly discover if they ever bothered to ask— or in this case, follow…
Dongsook is a stray cat from Korea. For five whole years, she had been fed by an anonymous shelter employee, who made a point of getting to know both the kitty and her habits. One odd thing the employee noticed was that Dongsook refused to take food unless it was in some kind of bag or package.
It didn’t matter whether the woman laid out the yummiest treats and tuna, Dongsook would refuse to touch them unless they were in a bag. Even then, however, the cat wouldn’t stay and eat her meal, she’d scoop up the goods and run away to do her business somewhere else.
The woman wasn’t sure if the cat was just shy, or maybe, as we mentioned, she just had some odd habits. Finally, after a while of watching the bizarre behavior, the woman decided to follow and see what was going on. Why was Dongsook bringing her food somewhere else to eat? And even then— why?
So, the following day, after giving Dongsook a delicious bagged meal, the woman followed the kitty from a distance. She was soon led to a platform above the entryway of an old building.
As the volunteers watched, Dongsook paced the platform. She wasn’t opening the bag of food, and she definitely wasn’t eating it. So what the heck was going on?
It didn’t take long for them to get their answer. Soon, a tiny ginger kitten scampered out.
Turns out that Dongsook was the ultimate mom, not even tempted to take the food from the volunteers. Instead, she was only interested if it was something she could bring to her baby.
The women soon learned that Mama Dongsook had originally had a litter of 5 kittens. Unfortunately, with no one to protect them while Mama scavenged for food, this tiny ginger was the only one who had managed to survive.
The volunteers knew they had to help this furry family immediately. Once they managed to trap the fearful felines, they started to gain their trust. They brought them back to the rescue, where they got their very own house to live until a loving furever family came along.
This story is so inspiring, and it really goes to show the power of motherly love. Dongsook has clearly suffered loss throughout her life, and it’s so amazing that these loving people finally stepped in to help her and her baby get the life they truly deserve.
