Melissa was having a regular day when she met the little kitty that would change her life. During her shift at the local pet store, a hungry ginger cat showed up at her work, begging for a few scraps of food. Melissa and her co-workers couldn’t just let the cute guy go hungry, so they happily fed him whatever kitty food would be allowed.
“This little man was a stray coming around my work for food and of course we obliged his needs being a pet (supply) store,” Melissa told Love Meow.
The orange kitty kept coming back to visit the workers, until one day, he disappeared for a full 5 days. On his return, the women were shocked to see him. He looked like something terrible had occurred.
“Missing for five days, he showed up looking like this,” Melissa recalled. “I took myself and a dedicated friend/coworker and an on-call vet to track and net trap him.”
When the women managed to trap the cat, they rushed him to the vet for emergency care. The poor boy was in critical condition. He had a huge abscess that needed to be drained, as well as a broken jaw.
The poor ginger was scared at first, but when he realized he was finally getting help, he started to purr incessantly.
Mr. Pickle (as he was named) spent 45 long days in the hospital. But after everything, he was healthy and strong— and his jaw had been completely fixed.
His care cost Melissa six thousand dollars, but she says Mr. Pickle is worth every penny.
“6k later, he’s the best indoor baby I could ask for.”
Although Mr. Pickle was healthy enough to leave the hospital, he still had some healing to do. Until then, he would have to wear a few extra layers.
“He looked oh-so-cute in his T-shirts,” Melissa adds.
This is the day his wire came out of his jaw. Now, Mr. Pickle could finally “put his bald body on display.”
It didn’t take long for Mr. Pickle to settle right into his new home— even becoming best friends with his new brother, a sweet tabby named Ted.
Although it took a lot of hard work (and money), Mr. Pickle is finally living the life he deserves thanks to Melissa.
And every day, he thanks her— in the form of endless snuggles and love.
