Never mess with the flock.

Cats have been known to kill and eat full-grown chickens.

It’s not quite as simple of a meal as waiting for a human to open a can, but it has happened before. Recently, two chickens were captured on camera protecting each other from the advances of one feline who posed a threat.

It is not entirely clear if the cat in this video was just trying to play with the chickens or if they really were trying to make one of them a snack.

Regardless, they weren’t taking any chances.

The chickens teamed up to give the cat a farm style beatdown.

Cat and chicken staredown.

The video begins with one of the chickens seemingly in a staredown match with the cat.

It looks as though the two might end up literally butting heads as they enter into something of a contest, or even a game of “chicken,” if you will.

Once the cat felt that an appropriate amount of head-butting had taken place, they pounced. The cat’s leap on top of the chicken resembled how you might see two cats playing, but the chicken’s friend was not taking any chances.

The hen came to the rescue quickly.

As the cat was on top of the chicken, they noticed the second chicken coming to help.

At this point, the attack peters out as the cat assesses the situation.

It’s almost as if the cat stops to say “What? I wasn’t doing anything.”

“Oh, so now you want some too?”

The cat let the first chicken go and it seemed as though the situation might be over. Both chickens turned their back to the cat (bad move) and began to walk away. This provided an opening for the cat to strike again.

The cat perhaps sensed that they would need to get this hero chicken out of the way first. As the two chickens walked away, the cat pounced on the second one.

“You are being escorted off the premises”

As the cat jumped on the second chicken, the first chicken knew it was their opportunity to repay the favor. They turned around and went to save the second chicken, just as it had done for them moments earlier.

At this point, the cat decided this was too much trouble and abandoned the attack. It then ran a few yards away from the two chickens.

The chickens weren’t quite finished with the cat, however.

Now, it is 2-on-1

The two chickens now had more confidence. They boldly provided a border between the cat and any other chickens. Their combined body language was saying “you shall not pass.”

Naturally, this led to the cat pouncing on the first chicken again. The attack didn’t last long and the two chickens once again chased the cat away from their area, this time to a much safer distance.

“Bad kitty! I’m glad the chickens defended each other but why didn’t the dummy holding the camera intervene?!” One viewer asked.
