Emma Massingale heard through the grapevine that a friend was going through a separation and had to get rid of her beloved Siamese cat Louis. Massingale wanted to help her friend, and so she offered to take Louis in. Massingale brought Louis to her home in North Devon, England, where he began adjusting to his new living situation. Louis clearly missed his old owner, and Massingale wanted to do something to help him.
Massingale, who’s a professional horse trainer, brought Louis with her to visit her horses in their stable. To her surprise, Louis absolutely loved spending time with the horses.
As Massingale worked in the stables, Louis would visit with the horses. He became particularly close with a gray horse named Comet. At first, Comet and Louis would just hang out in Comet’s stable, cuddling and napping together. But one day, Louis decided he wanted to ride on Comet with Massingale.
‘It all started when I was riding Comet and I would just tap my leg and Louis would jump on,” Massingale told Metro. “Now all I have to do is tap Comet’s back and Louis is straight there. He doesn’t need anymore encouragement than that.”
Louis now rides Comet on his own. He just has one stipulation: he won’t go on rides when it’s raining outside.
‘Louis rides whenever he likes really, sometimes just in the arena sometimes he comes out for a longer wander. He is a bit of a fair weather rider though as doesn’t like riding in the rain,” Massingale says.
Whenever people notice Louis on Comet’s back, they do a double take. After all, a cat riding on a horse’s back isn’t something you see every day!
Once Louis is done with his ride for the day, he’ll simply jump off Comet’s back and walk back to the stable or Massingale’s house. In the evenings, he enjoys cuddling up with Massingale and her other cats and dog.
After losing his first owner, Louis needed love and friendship, and he found that in the most unlikely place: with a horse named Comet. If you want to see Louis’ horse riding skills in action, check out the video below!
